I bought Vol. 1 & 2 of the black/white Tarzan films that I used to love watching when i was a Kid. There are 12 episodes in all and star Johnny Wiessmuler and Maurine O'sulivan (I think that's her name). These are great fun to watch with the kids and very nostalgic for me. They can be somewhat corny or goofy but also are very adventurous. I also like them because of the vintage safari gear to  . Some of them can be down right sexy too, there's a scene where Tarzan and Jane go for a swim - Jane's completely nude  , I didn't remember that at all. Anyway these are alot of fun, check 'em out especially if you've got kids..

Yep, Iove those old Tarzan movies too. Everytime I see one it transports me right back to memeories of watching them when I was a kid. My Dad told me how much fun it was to watch them at the theater when he was a kid.

Ah, yes. Even though I grew up in the 80s, TARZAN was still on TV on Sunday afternoons and I'd be there watching it! (along with other B&W gems!) The nude scene was recently restored after being cut in the 30s to appease the censors! lol

I, too, am a fan of the old Tarzans

It's funny to watch the early Tarzans and have them swing on trapezes in the trees instead of vines.
Even the nude scene in Tarzan and His Mate is very much of the period in that it looks like something out of Billy Rose's Aquacade.
I even like the late 1940s "poverty row" Tarzans with Weisenmueller.

Sincerely,
the Wolf

One the censors missed

My Mum has always maintained that there was only ever one Tarzan . . . Larry 'Buster' Crabbe. "You know," she always says whenever a Tarzan movie comes on (usually a Weismuller), "we used to love watching Buster, he used to wear this little loincloth and you got a great view when he swung through the trees. Yep, he was the only Tarzan . . ." she'd add wistfully.

Great, my Mum was a teenage perve! lol

Of course, I thought, well, it was back in the 30s, I couldn't imagine you'd see anything too revealing in a movie back then, right? Then, one Saturday afternoon, there's ol' Buster in "Tarzan the Fearless" on TV, and sure enough, when that camera films him from behind as he's swinging along, that loincloth flies up and you can see more bare buttock than I'd have ever thought would make it past the censor's scissors! lol
