Talks of "Christine" remake

Ok y'all I dont know how to feel about this one. John Carpenter's "Christine" (1983) has been one of my favorite movies and it's a great book. I watched it two nights ago and the guy that I'm seeing and I started to talk about remakes. Yes, the dreadful remake topic. I then said hell, they've remade everything else, they're probably going to remake this! So we looked it up and sure as you know it I found something on the remake of it! We joked about how instead of the original 58' Fury they're going to use a muscle car like a Charger or something! :p The article said they're going to gear more towards the book and how the main character " Arnie" becomes possessed. We'll see how it goes! Random thread but I kinda wanted to rant.:D

If they remain true to the book as this guy states, maybe it will work.
As long as there isn't so much CGI it isn't believable.

Oh I know! That's another thing that gets on my nerves! CGI! Boo!!!!! Yes, it's necessary in some cases but not in every case.

My take on remakes: if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Of course they will saturate the thing with CGI, it's inevitable, unfortunately. Why don't they go and remake something crappy, like say "The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies"? That would be a true test of creative mettle. If they could polish a brownie like that, I'd plunk down a few quid! :)

I have no real objection to this, providing it is a re-imagining of the book rather than a straight remake. I do think in general, though, it's a shame we have so many remakes these days, but then, haven't there always been? How many times has Dracula been done? It does seem to be particularly prolific in the horror genre, perhaps because horror spawns the sort of myths that are told and retold for each generation, just like the phantom hitch-hiker.

What I'm more interested in is that Frank Durabont has acquired the film rights to The Long Walk. I really hope he manages to do that one soon.

I'll take prolific CGI over them wrecking a perfectly good '58 Fury hardtop. Incidentally, in the book the car is a Fury sedan, which didn't exist in 1958. Probably an error, but it can be read to add to the supernatural nature of the beast.

Realistically, if they're going to update the setting from 1983 to 2011, the car should be a 1986 model instead of a 1958.

If they make Christine an 86 Taurus, I might, just might, mind you, rent the film.....

I haven't seen the movie but Christine is one of my favourite Stephen King novels. King has written some of the best horror and non-horror fiction but sadly most of it has not translated well to the screen (apart from the wonderful Shawshank Redemption which is naturally the first to spring to mind).

haha!! Wow! An 86' Taurus! I'll see the movie either way, Since they destroyed 21 58' Furys making the film maybe they'll pick a car that deserves to be destroyed like the new Chargers! hah ;)

As for The Long Walk, I'm surprised this wasn't turned into a movie a long time ago - such a fantastic story.....

I hate remakes.

The movie wasn't true to-the-letter to the book, but it was done admirably. They will probably have to change the make of the car altogether, because the Fury wouldn't be something 17 year old Arnie would find at the side of the road in 2011. If he did, he sure wouldn't have the money to buy it... Or to fix it up.

Keith Gordon was perfect as Arnie too, so I'm intensely skeptical of the new kid!

Bunny, I saw that movie but it was the MST3K version and I really enjoyed it!
Without the jabs at the film, it's unbearable. IMHO

The film without the comments? Unbearable IMHO.
An 86 Taurus? So Christine would be mad, but somewhat mild. :)

I haven't seen the movie but Christine is one of my favourite novels by Stephen King - the only thing I find with King is that his stories rarely ever translate well to the screen (with the exception of Shawshank Redemption).

A Hummer would be even better!

:) That's the version I saw as well - I don't think I could have stood it without the commentary! "Manos: Hands of Fate" would be considered Oscar-worthy next to that turkey. I luuuurrrve MST3K!
