Most of the "Rogers" companies were bought out/absorbed/engulfed by the huge International Silver combine, so the quality for anything with any variation of a Rogers name (Rogers, 1847 Rogers Bros., Rogers Cutlery Co., RC Co., etc, ad infinitum) is pretty consistent across the board. International Silver sets are also very easy to find replacement pieces for.

A ton of Onieda brand silverplate was distributed in the '40s and '50s as giveaway premiums in boxes of laundry soap or for Betty Crocker coupons, so it's very common to find loose pieces from Onieda sets floating around.

Are you familiar with Buccellati? They're in the same league as Christofle.

How much can I expect to pay for a set of silver or silver-plate cutlery? What factors affect the price?

Condition and completeness of the set will affect price, as will rarity of the design.
Better to find a commoner design you like than spend years and dollars trying to make up a setting for 8 in an obscure pattern.

I went with "Coronation" by Community, as it is one of the commonest patterns, has a nice balance of geometric and floral motifs, and I had one spoon left from Grandmother's original set. Now I have a big set of 9+ settings plus all the serving pieces I can find.

Coronation is the one on the far left in the picture posted above by ColeV48. It was originally introduced in 1936 as a celebration of Edward VIII's coronation, which never happened due to abdication. But it was one of the most popular patterns well through the 50s, so it is easy to find.

I think you can easily find a setting of 8 (standard) for around $100 if you haunt Ebay.
