I have always wanted to learn.
I have always liked the scene at the end of "Swingers" when 'Mickey' suddenly comes alive with Heather Graham. Joh Favreau did a really nice job with that scene.
I have always respected Gene Kelly and Fred Astair for their skills as well.
Yes, dance lessons are on my "to-do" list.

Hi Bern,
It was great meeting you at the QM. My dance partner and do throw outs in our shows. I'm not performing again until January, but I'll post pics when I do. Here's another great link with some dance clips. Camp Hollywood is an annual dance event here. The balboa jam clip is pretty amazing.

It's not that hard to learn to dance. You should go for it! Try a swing dance club that has lessons. Also, you may want to check out yehoodi.com they're an East Coast swing website. In the discussions page you can find some lesson info. Some threads can get a bit off color at times, but I figure it's just the maturity of some of the folks.

Maybe we'll have more dancing at next years gathering. If so, I'd love a dance with each of you. Take care, Trix.

Yes, Hemingway, thats a _great_ scene. It should be an inspiration to all guys to be prepared for that moment when you must to step up. It helps a lot at Weddings too.
I'll give you & your roommate a little lesson next time we meet.

We should do a little dancing next time. I believe Matt, Lauren, and Vanessa, and a few others did, but we should do something organized.

it was really nice meeting you too.It ws great meeting EVERYBODY.
But its a shame there wasnt a more suitable band for all to dance. We'll have to do a beginners lesson for all the shy loungers next time. It really doesnt take much to start , just enthusiasm.

They usually start w/ a basic instructional.
We'll figure out a good time to visit.

Incidentally, the biggest northeastern airshow culminates in a hangardance.
Tons or reenactors camped out,veterans, vendors selling old gear, fabulous old aircraft & a dance.
The only drawback? If it rains, we're screwed. And June can be rainy...

There was indeed dancing on deck this past weekend. It was late into the night Saturday & only attended by five people. . . but we did have the pleasure of listening to Lauren's great phonograph & records.
I'd love to see something more organized next year.

I go out swing dancing every saturday night to a live big band and Glen Echo (MD).
A while ago, someone doing an article on Dance for National Geographic took pictures while I was dancing, so I've been keeping me eye out for those.
(I'm one of those terrible people who is very good at Aerials and Charleston, but my Lindy Basic is, well, lacking.)

Putting the cart before the horse eh? (Aerials before basic footwork) tisk, tisk!

I have never done any aerials! Never had a full time partner to learn and execute such moves. And even then, they should be only done in contests and competitions! Not on social dance floors unless in a jam circle.

Take the time and work on your basic! Some people love watching clean and intricate footwork rather then air steps!

I do aerials, too. But I agree with Root. I'd never do aerials with someone I haven't practice with, and never on the dancefloor unless during a jam, contest or performance. In fact, WildRoot has known me for ages, but he's never seen me do an aerial because my partner, myself and a jam circle have never all been in the same place at the same time!

I've seen aerials sprung on an unsuspecting follow, and once had a throwout "thrown" at me on the floor. Usually you get through it fine, but you never know who might be under you when you come down. Which is the reason aerials are dangerous on the social floor even with your regular partner. Even the best dancer, caught up in the moment, gets in someone else's way sometimes or bumps into another couple. It's very possible that even if you've done the aerial a hundred times, someone might have turned or moved right into the spot you were expecting to land in, or to where they're going to get your foot in the gut. And unfortunatly, no matter who was really in who's way, all eyes fall on the couple who did the aerial.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents on aerials. Plus, like Root, I also love to watch the footwork of a good dancer. Like Peter Loggins. (Sigh) He's a dream to watch. I've only danced with him once, but I could watch him all night. Now don't go thinking he's this hunk of a guy, he's kind of greasy loooking and his colorful language would make a sailor blush. But he's just about the best dancer you'll find in LA and he knows about everything there is to know about music and dance from the 1920's on.
