The sweatbands on this thread are always an inspiration. I am experimenting with sweatband construction on my own hats. I have been sewing the ends together and then covering with braid. But a lot of these vintage sweats seem to be taped together at the join. It's a neat and simple solution but I worry about how long lasting it would be. And I'm not sure what sort of tape to use. I would ask this on the hat making thread but I can tell you nobody knows for sure how they were done (also not all are the same tape type and method).
