Sweat Band Lettering

I apologize if this is a strange question. Does anyone have any tips to preserve the lettering on sweatbands? Most of my hats (with the exception of a few I don't regularly wear) have all the lettering worn off. I wear my hats daily however a lot of the (older) hats I see on here still have the original lettering on them. Id like to start saving what little I have left

Plastic tape over them? Or a clear plastic film, with tape at the sides, so that the glue will not effect the lettering. I guess its the wear that causes issues, but at the end of the day, if the hat gets worn, I`d just leave it to the natural forces...
