Well behind the front lines!
That article gives an overall concept but it isn't accurate in a few places. For example, it describes the Spanish-American era uniforms as canvas. In fact, wool was worn to Cuba in great amounts. The new M1898 uniforms weren't ready when the units left Tampa, and today we associate the uniforms with that pattern, which were issued after most of the troops got back to the US.
