Superstitions...what are yours?

Since this is being brought up in the talismans thread and I dont want to jack it anymore so then it already has been...

What are your superstitions, personal, family or otherwise?

I'll start with mine.

I always put a penny in a purse/wallet that I give for gifts.

I wont open umbrellas inside. Period. The end.

Though I would love to have a black cat.

:)

Anyone else want to share?!

I've shared some of my mum's on the other thread, but a few more....

No peacock feathers in the house, not ever (something to do with the eyes?) I have a peacock feather hat, so I don't buy that one, but....

If you want to live and thrive, let a spider run alive.

Never look at the new moon through glass (and turn your money over at the new moon so that it will increase!)*
*my mum has a VERY odd saying when she sees someone with a pronounced squint - she always says "oo, turn your money over!" I presume in some reference to the moon? but I don't get it....

I constantly knock on wood--even on the phone.
Putting new shoes on the table is bad luck.
I won't walk under ladders.
I don't open umbrellas in the house.

...and I own a black cat!

Very superstitious...

My grandmother would never put a stitch in a garment someone was wearing unless they held a bit of the thread in their teeth, or she claimed it would sew your soul to your shroud!

I come from a long line of Jewish tailors. Could you guess?

Funny, I have peacock feathers all over my house (literally) for good luck, riches and love

About the only one I ever even recall is the ladder. I'll think of it then go under it anyway.:D

I'm the eejit would walk under a ladder just to prove I don't hold with superstition.... one day it'll be my undoing! ;) I don't think there are any particularly superstitious habits I have (though some might say I have one very big one - I'm religious lol ), though I am a creature of habit and there are things I do as habit, maybe even bordering on ritual, which don't have any real reasoning behind them. I'll never lift the first newspaper or magazine from the pile in the shop - always the second one. I suppose this might be rooted in a subconcious assumption that the one on top has been leafed through by all comers, though I do the same even with a fresh bundle where it's obvious noone has touched the one on top. I'm sure there are other things, too - sometimes I think I'm in danger of being a bit C-D-O.
