Pretty cool. It means that it's really a Knox Flying Cloud that, for whatever reason, couldn't be sold as a Knox. Inventory overage, as Alan suggested. Perhaps the store that ordered it declined the order after the hat was made, which might explain why the retailer's mark was marked out, but not necessarily why all Knox markings are gone. I think we've also seen factory seconds marked out similar to this on a few hats before. It's also possible that it was inventory that couldn't be sold under the Knox name when HCA sold their hatting business to Koracorp in 1972, and perhaps excess stock was marked out and sold off. If only it could tell us its story.

thanks for all the help. So how old do you think this hat is? And should I look into having a modern hat made like it or just continue to look for more vintage hats like it. :)

Since this has become the all Superior thread, here are two more items.

Pickk of a liner/sweat I grabbed off ebay:

Old thread, but I got this the other day for cheap to see what it was like.

I'm certain that this is a rebranded Knox Twenty comfit custom edge. The double logos were stamped over the Knox Twenty and Custom Edge markings.
