Superdry jackets???

I have my two FQHH from Aero, whom I acknowledge as the premier leather jacket maker in the world, but am getting old and with my shoulder failing, cannot sustain the weight of the Stockman and will probably look to sell it in the near future. The Highwayman is a family heirloom and that will go with me to the grave...

Anyway, as one ages convenience becomes more of a factor, and while I love my Aeros there are a few issues with FQHH:

1) it is a heavy leather and in warmer times of the year (Autumn/Spring) and the wool lining, might be a bit too warm

2) its weight can be a burden if you walk around in it for several hours, though this is more of a problem with the Stockman than the Hwman. I have shoulder/back problems so a lighter-weight leather might be a better option for my AARP-ready joints

3) having a leather jacket that is more of a throw-away, where you do not have to be worried about it getting scratched and can be worn without concern, especially on a vacation, is appealing.

As such, I am considering a "cheapie" leather jacket which, while obviously will not approach Aero in quality will serve the purpose of being a lighter jacket in terms of weight and won't torment me if it gets scuffed or scratch. So I discovered (yes I am late to such things) the Superdry brand which seems to have a number of leather jackets:

While there are Aero and possibly other higher end makers whose products will be superior, they will cost 2-3x as much and I am seeking a lightweight, knock-around jacket which if it gets beaten up a lot I won't lose sleep over. I just don't want something that will fall apart after 3 wearings, either - and the logo will be removed the moment I brought the item home as I refuse to wear anything other than sneakers with a logo.

Does anyone have any experience with this brand and its product quality?

I have a fishtail parka from them...the sleeves are pretty slim, and I should have sized up to a large- I’m a 38. They definitely fall into the “Asian sizing” category. You might give Five Star a try. Some members are having fun designing their own projects for around $250.

Premium jackets should also be able to do this. If that doesn't work, then it shouldn't have been a jacket.
If I have to pay attention to something, it's not worth the money to me.

I only know superdry from clothing and I am satisfied with it. Leather seemed a bit thin to me. But also think that for the official price of a Superdry jacket you get a made2measure from fivestar and you are better with it.

Another option is to look for a pre-owned jacket in a lighter hide. My Bates & white-label Harley Sportster are lightweight, awesome and can be had for under $250. I prefer heavy hides but these lighter jackets certainly have their well-deserved spots in my rotation. Especially in south Florida heat.

Through my exploration of vintage jackets, I too have fallen in love with the lighter weight 60s Steerhide. Perfect for most times here in Southern California.

Agree and understand on the Aero front, I have a halfbelt which I like a lot but rarely wear for the bulkiness.

Superdry is very much a fashion brand, they had a model I quite liked out a couple of years ago so I was looking on eBay for a while, there seemed to be a lot of jackets which were only a year or two old with tears or splits in them offered for sale. Now it could've been the owners rather than the jackets but I get the impression the products are not built to last. Surprised one of those jackets posted is £450, hopefully that one IS pretty solidly made.

As mentioned there are other options online, I have a Bronson A1 which has become my go to jacket for daily use, it didn't cost the earth so I don't have to worry about it but it still seems very well made and a nice jacket.

I know convenience can be a factor, being able to order online and return things easily if they don't fit can be good, I've got a couple of Levis leather jackets I like due to this.

I doubt you'll find SuperDry leather owners on TFL. There are three SuperDry stores in Manhattan, checking them out in person might be worth your while. If the leather feels substantial but not heavy, go for it!

The Superdry company started as a market stall in nearly Cheltenham. They made their money pretending to be Japanese!

They moved from the outdoor stall to a shop called Cult Clothing before changing to the Superdry name.

It was started by a local guy called Julian Dunkerton who sold the company a few years ago. He now owns my favourite cider company, Dunkertons, started by his parents, also in Cheltenham!

I have looked at some to their stuff but it's not my style. I'm too old!

That one looks fine but why wouldn’t you just get a vintage brooks that this is clearly copying?

Have you tried Aero Happy Days ? It’s mid to light horsehide. What size are you ?

I know might be sacreligious for this crowd, but I have a couple of All Saints sheep/lambskin jackets. I was actually selling them, but after getting a couple low ball offers I think I'm going to keep them. For about $300, I find them really good value at that price point. And in actuality, is probably the best jacket for my climate and body type. They fit superb and are thin enough to wear even on a summer night. Real clean lines, good taper, perfect sleeves. And funny enough, I get the most compliments for, of course from non "experts". Would be nice if the leather was a tad bit thicker, but the workmanship is fine and I'll get a solid 5 years out of them no problem, probably longer since I don't wear them as much.

Mostly because I'm obsessed with the thicker leather and certain brands like Schott, now Aero, and sort of force it and sneak it in any chance I get as soon as the weather cools off any bit. I guess in Los Angeles you can get away with T-shirt and leather for a good handful of months and it gets down into 60s or lower most nights other than dead of summer. But I'm pretty crazy. My next purchase is probably a D1 or B6, and I really have no business buying one for my climate. I might get to wear it 10 times a year if that. But it's just one of those holy grail items for me that I've always wanted. Maybe I'll move to Minnesota or something like that to justify
