Sunglasses, lens colors and poloarization

Need sunglasses to wear with suits, general driving, attend sporting events and outdoor concerts, walking around. Looking at a pair or Rayban Clubmaster and I have the choice between their G-15 green/gray lens, brown gradient with polarization, grey gradient with polarization or pink polarization. Kinda like the G-15 or the brown gradient. I don't want to overthink it, but something tells me take polarization every time, even if the brown gradient polarized lenses don't appear to be as :"dark" as the G-15. Thoughts?

Grey won't change the color of what you see... Yellow is superb for night and especially nighttime rain driving...

Well, this may not be the best suggestion, but I quite like my Matrix Agent sunglasses that I bought a while back for costume purposes. They look good with dressier suits, but I can't see them worn too casually.

I stopped wearing polarized lenses because they make digital readouts (in the car, on the gas pumps) difficult to read. What helped me choose my next lenses was that the eye doc had big, round glass and plastic samples of colors, both polarized and non-polarized lenses. Take them outside and look around to see what things will look like in the sun, or back inside for indoor viewing. Don't think twice about over-thinking your lenses. Whatever you choose won't be inexpensive, so take the time to be sure you're happiest with your decision.

Lily, thanks. I tend to analyze a lot. I will not be using them for sports or water activities, but I am told that still, you get glare off streets and hoods of cars and buildings and the polarization just helps. I have a pair of Costas that are glass lenses, with thin cracks, that I keep in my car just for that reason, they are copper colored and suppossedly that is good for low to brigh tligh and has more contrast. I can get a pair of Rayban Clubmasters on the auction site for $90, which is what it would cost to replace the lenses in my Costas, and that is the G15. I can get polarized green or polarized grey for $140. I can get what they call the flash mirror which reflects some glare for about the same price

I'd take the polarization every time. They eliminate both UV rays and horizontal glare, which to me is the point of sunglasses, even if they aren't as dark. True, they can make an LCD display more difficult to read, but that's a small price to pay for the protection from the sun rays, which is, after all, why you're wearing sunglasses in the first place.

Hudson I am keeping my cracked Costas in the console of my convertible. The crack is more cosmetic than functional. They are copper colored and I feel that my eyes tire less with that color on a 6 hour road trip than my maui jims with the dark grey/black lenses. Yes, the fact I can't see the stereo channels is a bummer. I am thinking that it may be worthwhile to try the regular G15 lenses and see how those do, and who knows, if they suck that bad, maybe run to Sears for the lenses to be replaced? I have Maui Jims with polarization, but I am selling them because I fear that with the Titanium frame, if I put them in a suit coat pocket and pull them out, I may break the nose piece. And that clamshell carrying case is very impractical. I dont like wearing those Croakie like things to court so this is why I want a new pair that I can slide into my coat pocket easier

I have Maui Jims with polarization, but I am selling them because I fear that with the Titanium frame, if I put them in a suit coat pocket and pull them out, I may break the nose piece.

I thought that the titanium frames was supposed to make them pretty much indestructible.

The frames yes, but where they connect the lenses to the nosepiece, people report on the Maui Jim site and others than they have gotten stress fractures. The titanium temples and the nose piece itself, yes, bend it all you want. Very light weight and the lenses, they sorta wrap to the side so light does not come in much around their, but not true wrap arounds since they are very thin (the model is the Honolua Bay, blue temples)

G15 blocks 100 of uv I believe. Polarized lenses show annoying pattern in my windshield.

I was just wondering, for those of you that see lines on the windshield or can't see the monitor with polarized lens, do you wear corrective lenses? I have heard on several occasions the people that need corrective lenses, see dirt on the windshield that the rest of us don't notice as much.

I don't think that has anything to do with it. LCD readouts are difficult to read through polarized lenses because the light from the LCD screen is also polarized. So depending on the angle of polarization of the screen and the angle at which you're holding your head (polarized lenses are polarized vertically), the light may be partially, and up to, completely blacked out.

It's not dirt I see on the windshield but a pattern of relatively opaque places that looks sort of like a net. Could be the stress pattern.

I can report, with my Ray Ban Clubmaster and Wayfarer sunglasses, both with G-15 green lenses, I can see every LCD monitor I have, which is five. And, they still look cool!

I agree. The ray ban lenses are some of the best I have seen.
