From the listing of Daisy's new Fundamentals of Dress book. I'm putting it here for documentary purposes.

1941 - College girl, wearing sunglasses to (presumably) study. The reflection of the book on the lenses makes it hard to tell, but they look pretty round to me. The frames look like wire/metal and not any kind of plastic.

Oh yea, those caught my eye too, I love the whole look.

I love these but I don't know a thing about them, maybe one of you know who made them?

I have 2 original pairs of 1940s sunglasses, and both are this style with bakelite/plastic frames. One is a tortoiseshell color with black arms, the other was white frames. The white ones were so cute, but they snapped in half about a month ago. A friend of mine found some very similar in style at the dollar store, of all places!

We also have 2 original pair of the pilot's sunglasses, those were intended for men but were worn by female pilots (WASP or others) from photos I've seen. I'm wearing them in my avatar.

These are just what I've been looking for. I have a couple of vintage pairs that I don't want to break or ruin. They look like Ralph Lauren glasses. I wonder if all TJ Maxx's are carrying them. Thanks for that tipster!

Has anyone seen any cheap knock-offs like these on the high street? (Sunnies are one of those things I don't like to drop a lot of money on!).

Dead Men's Spex have a lovely selection of vintage frames (and you can browse by era), but I often come across a lot of cheap, vintage-style modern sunglasses in T K/J Maxx. T K Maxx change their stock regularly (at least in the UK), so it's worth it to keep checking.

My favorite so far is Allyn Scura, though they can be a little pricey. My best pair of 1930s sunglasses were a random find on ebay, so just keep looking!

Somehow vintage sunglasses are always too tight for my face. I can't abide any pressure on the sides of my face, for the same reason I wear sunglasses any time I step out into the sun- I have a family predisposition for photosensitivy, and am susceptible to migraines. And I read back in the thread but I'm not sure about the UV protection of a vintage lens. It is important- without it, you have a dark lens allowing your pupils to open a little more as they naturally do, which actually allows more uv in than if you were not wearing glasses, so sunglasses without it are more damaging to your eyes than if you aren't wearing glasses at all. My source for this information? I read it in an article about eye care in a magazine many, many years ago so I'm afraid I can't cite the actual article.

Tres Noir makes a lovely pair of sunglasses- I have another style by them (because the Ultra Lux wasn't out then) and they are hands down the best sunglasses I've ever owned. They're hand made and you can tell care went into them.
