Summertime Hair?

Okay, Ladies, I need some help/ideas...

I'm going to be going to the pool and beach quite a bit this summer, but I'd still like my hair to have a vintage style/flair/feel to it. It has to be able to get wet, too! (four kids who want Mama to play with them!)

My hair is cut in an inverted U shape (front is longer than the back) with the front being chin length and the back only slightly shorter.

Ideas? Please?

Is it naturally straight, wavy, or curly?

My hair is thick and has a lot of natural curl. I like to wear it in an angled bob that's longer in the front, and during the fall and winter I wear it straight. For me that requires blowdrying it straight and then flat ironing. For the summer, I like a lower maintenance approach with less heat styling. I tend to go for a shorter, layered "Marilyn Monroe" style cut that I can wear naturally wavy. Super easy to let it air dry or dry with a diffuser and just a bit of pomade or gel. For me with my natural wave, this is a great "wash & go" style.

Oops! Forgot to mention that! Straight as a board, medium weight, and a lot of it!

Sounds just like my hair (though mine is a little more than medium weight).

I avoid getting my hair wet just because it will completely undo the style. Unfortunately for us straight-haired gals, there is really no way around this, unless you want to pull an Esther Williams and spend hours practically gluing it to your head. When I go to the pool or beach, I like to put it into an updo which is essentially a series of Victory Rolls and give it a good spray. If I'm really getting soaked though (which, come to think of it, I haven't done in a while lol) I wear a little swimming cap. I recall both Lana Turner in The Postman Always Rings Twice and Joan Crawford in Mildred Pierce doing the same thing. :)

#3 High Humidity Retro Hairstyles~ Option One~ Structured Ponytail http://m.youtube.com/watch?desktop_uri=/watch?v=6ebiUjtpqMw&v=6ebiUjtpqMw&gl=US
#4 5 Minute Funky Vintage Hair http://m.youtube.com/watch?gl=US&hl=en&client=mv-google&v=Dn3pFjAlehM
Comments I often get with any of these hairstyles is did you cut your hair. Or I really like your hair your you should wear it up more often. You look so cute with your ponytail. I hope you have a great summer.

I'm sure you've already thought of this, but what about a Louise Brooks bob? That would work well with straight hair, easy to style, and it would grow out quite easily into the longer bob you're accustomed to wearing.

You can pick up a plain white one at any sports store - That's what I have. The only trouble is, the more hair you have, the harder it is to pack it all in.

(I sympathize about the boyfriend - Mine got so frustrated with me and my attempts to preserve my updo at a pool party this weekend that he finally just tossed me in the water lol There was no saving my 'do after that!)

As a warning, latex caps are horrific to get on if you have a lot of hair. (Or at least they pull on mine!) I like silicone swim caps, which I buy from The Finals swimwear (manufacturer). They cost a lot more but they save your head.

That brings back memories. *shudders* I must have lost whole heads of hair on them.

I am glad to know I'm not the only one. I swam in high school, and it did seem like most of the rest of the girls were just fine with the latex ones. I used to get in trouble for wearing the "official" cap over my silicone cap, but quite frankly, I didn't care.

My face is a bit to round for a bob :) Plus, it grows super slow :(

Really? I find a bob universally flattering. I have a very round face, and I get the most compliments when my hair is cut into a bob. The Brooks style bangs might not work, but you could probably modify the cut slightly to suit you.

Edmonton has been experiencing a crazy heat wave here - usually our summers are very dry but due to an extra foot or so of moisture it is very humid! I haven't even bother setting my hair lately, as it all falls out in two seconds. I just toss it up in a clip or victory rolls with either a snood or french twist for work. But all this humidity is making me pine for a pixie cut a la Audrey in Roman Holiday!

i'd get some curl conscious creme from bumble and bumble and throw that in wet, scrunch it and let it air dry. Alternatively, you could also use it as a setting agent for more vintage stylings.

Ick, it sounds like you're getting our humid heat or vice versa!

I'm still setting my hair, but I had worn it up for the past 2 1/2 weeks, non-stop, and the curls were falling out and the excessive hairspray was building up, so that I'd have a bird's nest to make sense of the next day (fun). I finally chopped it off into a Marilyn Monroe style bob 2 days ago. lol
