Hi Folks:
Just wondering if anyone has a favorite color in a summer hat? I'm not talking about the typical panama...I mean either a felt or a dyed straw.
Best,
Tom

I do like the look of a natural straw, like real straw, not Shangtung.

Optimo's "Rootbeer" Milan is gorgeous, and if I had the cash for one, I surely would have one. As it is, I am quite content with my "Black Walnut" hand dyed Milan from Black Sheep Hat Works:

I'm not really into colored straws. A milan isn't the color of the typical panama, but my favorite would have to be Roberts (RLK) Mac cream color fedora since it can go with any color I might wear.

That's a great hat, Jared! In fact, it's what has started me on this quest. I have just ordered two hats from Black Sheep based on your reviews... A felt Alpine Mist, and a Milan like yours. Now I have to decide on a color!
Best,
Tom

In terms of coloured straw - faux straw, mainly, in my wardrobe, I have a nice grey porkpie, one in black, and a rerally nice grey Akubra Capricorn. I like having a wide range of different Summer hats. One year I had just a panama, and I got very bored of that by the time it got cold enough for felt again.

This last summer I tried one of the new Stetson colored straws in a blue/gray mix and really liked it ... poly straw, but it wore well and stayed nice looking.
I think I'll get a similar one in their green mix this year.

I wear a lot of Aloha shirts when it gets much over 80, and the colored straws are neat to go along with them.

DANG!

It's too early to start dreaming about warm weather!
And it's 64 outside right now.
If this keeps up, I'll just go ahead and break out the straws!

This Californian is pleased to report that South Dakota is in the 60s right now, and sunny! I switched to my favorite summer straw-- A Dobbs green/olive Milan with wide grey ribbon and bound edge--- just because I could!

I like my moonstone Fed IV as the colour of the felt is light enough to be worn year round. When it gets too warm for felt (which it seldom does over here) I go hatless as I'm not a fan of straws, though that could change if I had to live in a tropical country.

Thanks Tom, you won't be disappointed with your hats from Black Sheep. Bob is every bit an amazing hat maker as any other maker mentioned on this forum.

My VS blue smoke Jazzman is a favorite, and also a VS silverbelly (the one with 2 buttons on the hatband). Both are in Artlite felt, which is hard to come by now.

Man me too!
Its gonna be in the mid 60s here tomorrow.
I may have to break out my milan Barn Stormer!!!!

Al Gore doesn't worry me.

I remember too many winters in the 70s and 90s when we had temps dip to minus 10 and lower for weeks on end.

I'll take this weather any time.

Jacket and fedora weather ... and it's just about right.

You can go outside without it being painful.
