Well, get this one. We have a major mag here in New York that's about shopping/events/entertainment in the city. My name got passed on to them for an article they wanted to have written about buying vintage men's suits, and it got back to me that they passed on me because they wanted 'a layman's point of view'.

Egads, I am a layman! I just happen to know more about it than the professionals. Here I've been vintage shopping in NY for a quarter-century and that's exactly the sort of experience THEY DON'T WANT!!!

Has anyone noticed that almost every politician from the President to Congressmen to Governors to Mayors wear a dark, almost black SB suit and a single color tie? No greys, blues, browns, nothing. Does this bother anyone else as much as me? They all look exactly alike! There's absolutely no variety or style.

I'd second that one! For politicians, it's almost invariably the blue or red tie with dark suit combination. Hardly any striped, polka-dot, or paisley stripes. I suppose that catering to the middle-of-the-road doesn't leave any room for individuality or elegance. Even a few spread collar/french cuff combinations would be heartedly appreciated.

Here's a suit-related trend that may (hopefully) catch on - NFL coaches wearing them on the sidelines.

This past weekend, San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Nolan received permission from the NFL to wear a suit on the sidelines instead of the usual Reebok team apparel (such as sweaters, polo shirts, and hoodies). He wore the suit to honor his ailing father (former coach Dick Nolan). And for the Monday Night game, Jacksonville Jaguars coach Jack DelRio also wore a suit.

Of course, most of us go back to the days of George Halas, Vince Lombardi, Hank Stram, and Tom Landry roaming the sidelines in their suits (and hats). Even Bill Belicheck (the New England Patriots' coach, known for his ratty appearance on the sidelines) has expressed interest in trading his drab hoodies and torn sweats for a nice suit.

Postscript: Both the 49ers and Jaguars won their games. :eusa_clap

I suppose we should be thankful for such news, but I'm annoyed at the fact that he actually had to ask permission to shuck the brand whoring logo-wear for something with some class.

well, as we all know, pro sports have nothing at all to do with sport and everything to do with advertising, and making us part with as much money as possible. (interestingly, Ditka was making this very point on ESPN radio and the chump hosting the show wouldn't let him expound as he might if left alone to talk. These, the hosts who every ten minutes have to say something flattering about a specific brand of Bratwurst or a nasal decongestant or a constipation aid. Has this ANYTHING to do with football?)

And, mugs that we are, we put up with it.

Nauseous. It should be titled, 'How to Look Like Everyone Else'. What self-respecting stylist would say 'You can wear this suit with jeans and sneakers?' How are these people earning a living by giving misinformation?' Grrrr.
