Strolling in the rain

Having just moved from sun almost ALL the time (Los Angeles) to a place with rain a GOOD portion of the time (Buffalo), I love wearing my lids when the skies open up! My heads stays dry. Showers stay off my glasses. And, damn, do I look good!

Often, the brolly stays in my hand by my side, as I love the feel of the rain on my face [huh] Plus my skin is pretty waterproof!!

Don't mention thunderstorms!! I just love them, I'm like in my own world cocooned when the rain is lashing down and streaks of lightening arc across the heavens. Don't know what it is about them, but I've always loved them.

What kind of hats are you guys wearing?

Akubras and Stetsons, of course! I went walking in a light rain for about 45 minutes yesterday afternoon. I had on my moonstone Fed IV. Both me and the hat were just fine when I got done.

I guess I'm like a cat - I hate getting wet. It's been raining lightly where I live for the last week and it's going to rain for another week. I'd rather not get wet during that period

As for a felt not being an oilskin, I couldn't agree more. But I'm not going out in torrential downpours that much and it's mostly across parking lots, but I just found it nice to saunter rather than run. My hats have gotten wet, but never so much I risked them losing their shape, I mean if I can't wear my hat in the rain, why do I own them?

Funnily enough it was rain on a fedora that got me into them.

I was staying for a few nights at Isaac's hostel in Dublin many years ago. It was chucking it down out. (I know why Ireland is called the Emerald Isle!) I was in the public room with several others planning which Guinness supplier to try that evening when this bloke wanders in in oilskins, rucsac and fedora. He tipped about a pint of rain off the hat, smiled and checked in. It impressed me and has cost me a lot of money since!

Sure, fur felt hats can survive the rain just fine. But the wearer of said hats still gets soaked, except for his hair. Do you guys have a phobia of wet hair? Or water on your eyeglasses?

The degree of rain that I can walk in without an umbrella (and I'm rather tolerant of walking in the rain) is roughly the same with or without a hat.

If you wear a trench coat too, then that combined with the hat keeps you fairly dry. I personally do this more often than not, though when it rains heavily it's always the coat and not the hat which soaks through.

I think that applies to any day. Walking shows good organisation and makes one look smarter I'm guessing. If that's taken too literally I can't be a gentleman though as I run a lot when having to run across train stations to catch my connection. [huh]

Walking in the Rain

I remember burying my hat under my shirt and diving into the house to avoid the rain,
when I first starting wearing fedoras.

Later, I spent a wonderful afternoon walking through the rain in Alaska.
My Royal Stetson was so soaked the water was dripping THROUGH the brim.

The next day when dry, the hat looked better than before!

Now I smugly "saunter" in the rain, whenever I can.

It's a great feeling.

It's been raining here for a day or two and today during a pretty good downpour I donned my Campdraft and my trenchcoat to go for a walk.

To which I replied;
