Here are some cars on Locust Ave. 1940. The large domed building in the background is our state capitol, one of the coolest in the Union, I might add.

I would add a few others but you can't really see the people very well, just buildings and cars. And I'm sure most of you folks aren't from Iowa, it probably wouldn't excite you too much.

I showed my drama teacher those pictures and he added that his high school was just to the right of the state capitol building. He's an occassional lurker here.

Really? What school did he go to? What's his name? That's very interesting, I guess I wasn't aware there was a school so close. There probably used to be at one time but everything gets torn down in Des Moines.

He was born in 1951, so I'm assuming he went to high school in the late 1960s, so things may have changed since then. I'll ask him if he remembers the name next time I catch up with him.

Well before. The "Empire"/Regency waistcoat ended at/just below the waist.

The name jerkin is still used (at least colloquially in the Scottish Borders) for zip-fronted woollen numbers - i had many as a youth though all mine had sleeves.

Personally, I feel breeches are highly underrated by modern society.

In America, I believe, breeches hold certain connotations...I love them, though my girlfriend would never allow me to purchase/wear them for these reasons...

but I've admired them from afar ... sort of like Redheads.
