I can't help but walk with a swagger while wearing this hat. It does match my beard BK. I don't know for how long though as I seem to graying more and more each day.

Charlie, did Douglas smile when he saw the hat?

Actually, I did ask him if he was going to LOOK at it before he took off. He squatteed down, opened that hatbox, slammed it shut and said he'd take it. The whole thing kind of reminded me of those scnese in "Pulp Fiction" whenvever anyone peeked into the attache case that Samuel L. Jackson was toting around . . .

Well Charles the strat survived it's first down pour while on my head and it has passed without any issue. It is hard not to feel good about yourself when wearing a good hat in the rain;)

Stratoliner Box

I'm curious about the Stratoliner box - I have two of them now, and I know it was intentionally football-oval to keep an extreme curl on the side brim. What I don't know is -

To what extent did the hat-buying/wearing population use the box, and to what extent do others here use those boxes for that purpose today?

and-

Were all Stratoliners sold with that same box in all years, regardless of brim width? -or- did Stetson drop the special box after a while, because they might have been getting feedback that the 'extreme' side brim curl was not 'catching on'?

Well, I received my r. deluxe strat. without box which I acquired latter. At first I thought I got ripped off because the box was too small. Then I learned why. Now I keep it in the box to develop that curl. Ain't learning on the job fun?

You know, I've seen that view expressed before, but I'm a bit skeptical. I have studied quite a few Stetson ads, including those with actual photos of gents wearing Stratoliners. I've seen many an auction on the Bay, as well. There is nothing that I've yet seen that supports the notion that the Stratoliner was designed to be worn with an extreme side curl. I think the major attraction of the silver Stratoliner box was that it was sleek and sexy. I'm not sure that it was intended to serve a functional purpose beyond that.

Cheers,
JtL

I'm still hoping for a post by someone that might know more certainly whether or not the narrow-box idea died soon after introdution, and maybe new Strats were manufactured on into the 1960's and maybe up to when Stetson was bought out and shipped out in regular boxes -
or-
did Stetson continue shipping all Strats in those special boxes for as long as the hat was manufactured?

I am curious about this because a heckuva lot more Strats have survived than did the special Strat boxes, so I am thinking that maybe customers had a choice and often chose a regular box, or provided feedback that killed the special box.

Stratoliner hat box

If you were tring to curl the brim would'nt you have to have a different size box for ever diferent size hat? I know that Stetson was bassic in hat boxes but I still doubt that they would have gone so far as to produce a spicial box for each size hat. But I have been wrong before.
