Stratoliner hat pin "Update 'Pins for sale"

Here is a closeup from a 1941 Stetson Stratoliner ad. I would assume that this shows the correct way to position the airplane pin on the ribbon.
Does anyone know for sure?

Thanks...

Hang tight, boys...

We're now working on two pins for sale here on the FL -- A Stratoliner AND a DC-3. Thought we were ALSO going to do a Connie, but the damn pin was WAY too big! Give me an idea of how many ya'll would like. Looks to me like it's going to be $25 each or two for $42.50. They'd be in .925 sterling. -- ZF

I'd assume that the way displayed in the ad is the correct way. What is the significance of these pins? Are they only for specific brands of hat or what? Please educate me or direct me to a helpful thread. Thanks!

Edit - OK, I found a post about the hat.. but how did the pin come to be? Did they just come with the hat? Sorry this is a bit... :eek:fftopic:

Maybe someone that knows more than I do will correct me if need be.
But I assume the pin was put on the hat as a marketing ploy. Also as a way to seperate the Stratoliner from the Open Road. As both hats were so much alike, with only the Stratoliner being avaliable in more colors.

Gotta love that line, "You and I must have at least five hats apiece. Men should have more hats."

Implying, I guess, that the average American man owned less than five hats. Interesting!

Pin position

Nose just dropping through the vertical in a nifty stall turn...

Put me down for one of each, silver.

Put me down for a Stratoliner pin

Put me down for a silver Stratoliner pin as well. Just got my Strat back from a little rehabbing by Art and it looks like new! May as well complete the look with the pin. Thanks!

Further update(s)...

  1. Sent the DC-3 and Stratoliner pins to my contact in Indiana. Will have prototypes back soon.
  2. DC-3 did NOT as I understand it go on a hat like the stratoliner.
  3. So, that means that hep-cats in the know could wear it on ANY hat.
  4. And, they could do so while supporting the Fedora Lounge!
  5. So far, I count firm orders for 4 Stratoliners in the first batch. Any more?
Please advise. ZF

BTW, welcome, MG-B. Where in Central Penn? I've got a big client at PSU and other clients in Bradford, Marienville, Brookville, and Kane.
