Stockings with slingbacks!

Hello ladies,

I was wondering if any of you good ladies could give me some advice as to what colour and type of stockings i could wear with a pair of two tone black and cream slingbacks. They have a three inch heel, and so far i have worn them without stockings with trousers, but would like to wear them with a black skirt or suit and i feel with autumn already here, i need to wear stockings with them. or if it would look silly, perhaps rethink the idea. It's just i love, love, love them and NEED to wear them some more! All suggestions and advice much appreciated!

I would go with nude stockings until it gets chilly out, because in my brain, black stockings = cold, but that's just me. What's the cream to black ratio on the shoes?

The main body of the shoe is cream with the toe part being black, there is quite alot of black on the toe part if that makes sense. Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. x

Nude. The part of the shoe that sits over your stocking is nude and I think that'd look really weird over black stocking - I equate it to wearing black stockings with white shoes.

I actually equate black stockings with evening wear, but will wear black tights during the day if it's cold out.

I agree - both about the nude stockings and the black as evening wear (but black opaques for day wear).

Thanks for the reply Kitty T and Puzzicato, i totally agree with you both, it is weird to wear black stockings with a mainly nude shoe, it's just that they are the kind of shoe i would have worn with trousers before or not worn with stockings at all, as i only ever wore black or brown tights before during the day, with the relevant shoes. Now i am trying to make an effort with putting together vintage outfits and wearing them everyday i was a bit stumped as i couldn't find any pictures of ladies wearing stockings with slingbacks, let alone what colour or style they would have worn. Would you wear a plain stocking or could you wear a fully fashioned stocking with a cuban heel perhaps or would that look silly? Questions, questions! Thanks again x

Or you could have nude stiockings with contrasting back seams and heels, red or black would look quite racy.

OOh yes, thanks Miss Ada vice, i don't mind a bit of racy on ocassion!! I was wondering if a cuban heel would look silly or not, i might have to give that a whirl. I'm going up to London soon and might have to pop into What Katy Did and treat myself to some!

I saw someone this afternoon in cuban heel stockings & slingbacks. They were a kitten-heel slingback and it just looked a bit odd.

It was probably just the proportions on this woman, or not having her seams straight or something, but the heel of the stocking didn't quite line up with the heel of the shoe and it jarred a bit.

Practice walking in them with the stockings too. I once wore a pair of slingbacks to a job interview. I hadn't worn them with stockings before then. I didn't realize the backs wouldn't stay on until I was walking into the building. Talk about awkward. I had to walk really slow to keep the backs on

Thanks for all the advice ladies, very much appreciated, i will have a go with the cuban heels, i just wanted advice before i had a good trying on session with different types of stockings not only because i didn't have the first idea of what to wear, but because knowing me, clumsy oaf that i am, i probably would have laddered at least one blooming pair trying to get them on and then if they had looked wrong, well...the air would have been rather blue!
