The first time it got wet was a light misting on a ride. Let it dry naturally overnight. Had quite a bit of shrinkage, but it was still wearable. The second time I left in outside overnight after a ride. All it saw was the dew. More shrinkage.

I only posted my original message in this thread because @tnjyoung had shrinkage with his Aero, and that gave my story some credibility. In the past no one has believed that my School really shrank. Someone actually said, "Well there must be something else going on here." No there was nothing else going on here except some light misting and the dew.

No doubting your story!

Each leather jacket maker uses different leathers for different jackets. Reading your story I suppose it might have to do with vegetable tanning. Maybe the tumbling done with other types of tanning shrinks the leather before it's made into a jacket. Just throwing out a theory.

That's kinda what I thought as well. Both of the jackets that shrank are vegetable tanned, or at least I believe them to be.

As far as shrinkage goes, I believe it has a lot to do with

1.The jacket getting wet and...
2. ...more importantly, drying too quickly (laying on a radiator, out in the sun, etc.)

At least that is what I think happened to mine, so I bought a jacket that is just large enough to suffer this fate, but small enough to be comfortable if this never happens.

I know that heat and water can cause pretty dramatic shrinkage, even on CXL horsehide. I managed to shrink my Teamster almost one full size, intentionally I might add, by soaking the jacket in hot water and then tumbling it in a hot dryer for almost three hours.

George Castanza also experienced some shrinkage, if I recall correctly. It’s natural and unavoidable.

So I now own, wear and love TNJYoung's Scheene. To me the sleeves are just right, you must have quite long arms there sir, as your jacket fits me to a Tee, and the shrinking has not contined to occur. I haven't had it very wet, and knowing this tidbit of information, I'll take care to let it dry only on my back, or hung up at ambient tempertaure in the house.

Also, congrats on the Highwayman!! Looking great there, and as many others have said, nice Triumph as well...

Aerofan,

I am always happy to hear about my old Sheene and that it is still in good hands and being worn regularly. I would love to see a photo of it again when/if you get the chance. That jacket is hard to beat. My new one is just a tad below it in regards to fit and I do sometimes miss it.

Great Looking HWYMAN. I noticed my Aero HB shrunk a little in the sleeves after wearing it in the rain for a couple of hours. I wore it around for another hour or so and now it fits like it really was made for me. Have you noticed the sleeves starting to wrinkle up a bit?
