Steve's Russet Goatskin A-2's are on special right now for $399. Leather tanned/jacket made in Mexico. Jackets seem to look great especially when broken in!!!!

Those are some nice jackets. McColgans are superior to Aero in my opinion. Better leather, better construction and the little details like the stamp on the wind flap and tag in the pocket. My steerhide is just beautiful. The pictures don't do it justice. The only knock is the generic nomenclature tag.

Nice looking jackets gents… Any 'made in label'? Honest question...

Yes, I had one, but moved it on a while ago. It did not fit me well enough to hold on too. Shoulders and lengths were good, but as I’m a trim bloke, my body was swimming in it.
The one I had was a generic pattern, with generic detailing, which may have changed since a few years back.
I had the Seal Steer. It was very nice leather, soft and comfortable, not heavy… Lots of character.
The jacket was well made, and neat. It was a bit rough around the edges, detail-wise (label, stamp, epaulet and pocket placements etc.. But only to the detailed-conscious eye).
The knit was solid. I would not say as ‘period accurate’ as GW, ELC or BK, but seamless and strong, without being think… I like the pics I’m seeing.
Certainly a contender for the budget-conscious.
Non-US guys beware of import duties… Factor in the extra costs.

Just to be fair, if the pockets are a bit high for one's tastes, just ask Steve to lower them, these are made to order. I think they are most authentic looking, best WW2 vibe at the price point. There are WW2 period photos of jackets with "high" pockets however certainly not the norm. High as in maybe one thumbs width too high.

I was watching "The Right Stuff" the other night, after just re-reading the book, and was wondering if anyone could tell me which A-2 it is that Sam Shepherd (playing Chuck Yeager) is wearing. That's one of the best-looking A-2's I've ever seen.

They're made in the USA sir. SM must have upped their game. The jacket as I understand, is an updated pattern from the one a few years ago, and is copied from a star sportswear. Some sort of issue with the rights to use an original maker label is why its generic. I've never had a GW or ELC or BK but I've had an Aero and its better then aero. If they use an original maker tag I really think they will be in the same conversation as the big 3. Unil then not many on here will take sm seriously.

Steve himself told me they are made in Mexico when I talked to him yesterday.............. Hides tanned in Mexico, the guy who used to sew the jackets in the states moved back to Mexico (unless I misunderstood Steve)

Here is the same jacket after several years of heavy use.

Hey fellas, I was gonna get an SM A-2 as well, most likely chestnut...anyone know what size I should get? Im typically a 44, I like a semi snug fit, with just enough "sweater" room. (Planning on layering my Eastman A-1 sweater during colder months)

my usual A-2 measurements are:

shoulders: 20.5 in

chest: 25 in

sleeves: 26.5 in

back length: 26.5 in

armholes: 21.5 in diameter

also, how much will SM customize for a customer? just arm and back length, and pocket placement? or would they do different stitch colours/knits.... ex. chestnut's caramel knits on the seal goatskin jacket with light brown stitches? and does that stuff cost extra?

Contact Steve - he's your best source for answers. He does do long sizes.
I don't know as I would recommend sm at this point. It took 5 months to get mine , then it wasn't the right size. So I sent it back with my ma-1 to get measurements for the right size. Steve said it would be back to me in two weeks. That was almost two months ago and Steve won't answer my calls or emails. Its to the point I've contacted a consumer protection agency and a lawyer. So buy one at your own risk.

I think one of the numbers of the SMW website is Steve's cell #, you could call and talk to him directly, if he is answering his phone
