It's nice to see the direction they are going, but I'm very turned off by all these 2 3/8" brims. Couldn't they vary things a bit? :rage: I mean, they just keep cranking out Downs & Chatham clones with different ribbon treatments and renaming them. At least give them different crown and brim measurements. Sorry to be negative, but, Sheesh.

I've got to agree with this - at least the Ashland-clone has an underwelt brim, so has something to distinguish it. Stetson makes the Chatham with a 2-3/4" brim for Bencraft, so it's obviously possible. And the Brewster shows that Stetson can put out a high-quality new hat.

I went into Cabella's thinking that they might have some nice hats. Boy was I disappointed. All they had was a Stetson Gun Club and a few really cheapo felts. Not much of quality and the Stetson was $150!

Don't count Cabella's out. This is the beginning of the fall season. I purchased my Gun Club from a store last November when it was on sale for $88. So if you like the style, hang in there.

Closing in on a year later, what's your impression of the hat? Was it initially stiff? I'm tempted to buy one if I catch them on sale and recrease it.

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier on this, I must've let the thread slip by. Easy to do with so many different threads coming fast and furious.

But as far as my impression, the hat was really soft when I bought it. The crown was lower than I usually wear and and that makes the brim look even wider than it actually is. So that's made it a bit harder for me to warm up to it. But it's seen its share of weathery days including snow. So far I don't have any complaints. But we'll see what this years brings. (Queue evil laugh)
