If this picture (nice lookin hat by the way) is the 2011 Packard then it looks nothing like the 2011 Stetson Packard sold at the FedoraStore.com. That one has a noticeably shorter crown with different crease, narrower ribbon, on and on. The picture above actually looks like a hand creased Nostalgia.

This is the same photo that's used at Quality Hats to suggest how to bash your Nostalgia. Sterling Hats uses it for the Nostalgia as well.

Nostalgia

I love my Nostalgia, because of the shape and dimensions, and the open-crown option. It's one of my favorite hats. Having said that up front, it does not measure up felt-wise with any vintage hat I own, and is not one that I would subject to the elements much. The felt is less dense than most I've sampled, I guess the word would be "loose." It wrinkled a bit after steam shaping. Great lines and nice wide ribbon, and the brim comes flanged just right for my taste, with a lot of cupping. Frank.

Thanks for chiming in, I've been considering a Nostalgia. Wanting to try a modern Stetson felt and like the fact that it is open crowned. I don't think I'd wear it fearlessly on rainy days like I do Akubras.

Not as tough as my Akubras

It may not stand up to weather like the many Akubras I've owned, but my Nostalgia is more comfortable than most of them. Not a knock on Akubras at all, they are the best value going in new factory hats in my book. The sweatband, combined with the soft felt of my Nostalgia make it extremely comfortable, and the open crown was super tall and straight. I've never had to stretch it, and it never seems to shrink at all. Knowing beforehand that the felt is not the toughest, I'd still recommend buying one, and may try another one when they become more widely available. Definitely suitable for those wanting a taller crown for the great old straight-sided styles. Frank

I understand, I love my Akubras, but frankly, I'm getting bored with buying them. [huh] Modern Stetsons seem to be piquing my interest lately.

One of the concerns I had was that the Nostalgia would be too stiff for easy dry shaping. Good to know they're not. How wide is the ribbon? From the photos I've seen it appears to be a bit wider than say the Federation's ribbon.

Nostalgia ribbon

Two inches exactly. I didn't want to wait for one of the hat stores to get one in my size from Stetson, so I called the Garland outlet, had one in my hand about five days later, at half the price. I think you'll be pleased. Call the outlets first, you might get lucky. It's the only modern Stetson I've really taken a shine to, as tapered crowns make me look like a goon. Frank

I just bought a Whippet from the Garland outlet, and also inquired about both the Nostalgia and the Globester which was mentioned in another thread. No luck there, I'll give the St. Joe outlet a ring soon.

Hey Interchange, I have a Globester I got from the Garland Outlet store. If you were looking for something along the lines of a Globester, I think I would be checking out a Roadster instead. Another new "Vintage" model. Hey wait a minute, isn't that an oxymoron?

I like the rich brown colour and thin ribbon look of the Globester but I think I would prefer a taller, fuller crown. The Globester is a light weight hat, with a cloth sweat. The feel and weight makes me think of an Akubra Lifestyle hat, except that it is lined.

My 2 cents.

Disappointed

I went into Cabella's thinking that they might have some nice hats. Boy was I disappointed. All they had was a Stetson Gun Club and a few really cheapo felts. Not much of quality and the Stetson was $150!

Left quickly.

I thought I read your review of the Globester and that it had a cloth sweat.[:eusa_doh: one of those types of product finish decisions on the part of Stetson] HATCO never got back with the crown specs on this hat in the modern Stetson thread... it's a bit short and or tapered then?

Do you own a Roadmaster? I thought the Globester would be a touch easier to reshape, though gtdean's Roadmaster reshape went well.

Did they have the "olive" colored Gun Club? If so, what was the color like? I ask because I just know it's bound to be much different than the stock photos online and in catalog.
