Here are 6 pages from a spring/summer 1949 catalog. Last page has 1 Stetson and some "Powder River" hats.

Very currious that on the Open Road, both 7X and the 25, that they are listed as raw edge and not bound. As well, no Open Road's offered in 3X or Royal or Royal DeLuxe.

Those descriptions are by 'Denver Dry Goods', not 'Stetson'. It's possible that Denver Dry Goods felt that the hat actually labeled 'Open Road', didn't fit in with their line of hats and prices well, and preferred to call the 7X and Twenty-Five 'Open Road', even though they weren't labeled as such on the hat (just as many loungers like to do), because of the popularity of the lower-quality hats that Stetson actually stamped as 'Open Road'. The 'raw edge' comment might very well be a mistake. I've found mistakes like this in other saddlery catalogs.

No Name hat company

Here are pictures of the crown sticker and sweatband stamping on a No Name hat company derby.

This is text from the article RLK found in post #88.

"It was John B. Stetson’s father, Stephen Stetson, who began a hat manufacturing career, first in East Orange’s downtown Brick Church section, then Orange, when he moved his operation to the Valley neighborhood.

It was in the Valley area that Stephen Stetson and his sons, including John B. Stetson, born in 1830, built the No Name plant.

Since the family never could decide on what to name the business, they simply agreed on No Name.

John B. Stetson, who suffered from tuberculosis, eventually left the family business in Orange, spent time exploring the Midwest, then headed back to Philadelphia, where, in 1865, he started his own hat manufacturing business.

It was in Philadelphia, not Orange, that John B. Stetson trademarked the Stetson name and built his own hat manufacturing empire under his own name.

Although John B. Stetson once served as president of No Name and held shares in the family business, the John B. Stetson Co. Ltd. of Philadelphia had no connection to No Name.

No Name, once Orange's third largest hat manufacturing concern, went out of business in 1926."

Any idea of why one photo shows Danbury Conn. and the other Orange NJ?

Not yet Vic. I'm researching thru google books and news. Once I find more detail I'll post it.

I did find a very cool 1913 No Name ad with soft backbows and up and down front brims.

I have the 1920 Fall/Winter Stetson brochure - if anyone's interested I'll email links to the pics.

Okay. I've been saving 'medium' size pics on my server, because they are more 'display friendly' for this forum, but given the lack of interest in pre-40 stuff, I'm going to start saving the larger pics on my server and will distribute links to those who are interested. Maybe I'll start a mailing list.

Okay, I'll post the medium-size pics in the pre-1940's Stetson thread, since the brochure has nice images of the actual hats - it's similar to that ca.1905 hardcover one, but fewer images in this one.

I'll also upload the larger pics to the server and provide links in the above thread.
