I finally won an Open Road in a size I can wear.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=220165275996&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=012

As you'll see from the item listing, the seller did not list the hat as an Open Road or post a very good photo. However, the description revealed all.
I sent a message to the seller asking if they would consider listing the hat as BIN and they said if they did they'd want $55.00. I responded that I would buy it at their price. The rest, as they say, is history. :D

I can't wait to see the hat.

I have a very old Open Road size 6 7/8 or 7 in the original box but it obviously doesn't fit me. I just really like the hat. :)

Hey, Deanglen, can I join the Brotherhood of the Thin Ribbon now? :fedora:

GOOD JOB

I had it on my watch list and wondered what happened. I'm a 5/8's, so I know how hard it is to find them.

ps... Loved your Scouting Post:eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Congrats!

Carter, An iconic hat as the OR is, let's hope this is the one for you!

The eBay-listing mentions "...many years of ranching and history", but the full colour drawing on the crown liner of this OR seems rather 'modern' to me.

Sometimes it's just a matter of luck as you know. Most sellers on OFAS don't want to change an auction, even with no bids. In this case, I was fortunate to find one who would. :)

Thanks for appreciating the Scouting post. I find they have as much to offer today as in the past. :fedora:

I agree. Plus "...many years of ranching and history" probably wouldn't result in a hat that appears in a condition as good a this one appears to be in.

Nevertheless, the price was right so it was too hard to resist.

Hey, Indycop, Interesting new avatar. Seems like an odd job for someone in law enforcement.

[huh] Lulu is lilbuckaroo0708@hotmail.com ? [huh]

Well, I just yesterday bought a vintage ladies western jacket from her/them as well.

No, it's not for me. lol

I just put in the minimum bid and no one else bid so it's mine....until I either give it as a gift or resell it. ;)

great job! funny how things right under our noses get overlooked...
you'll love the hat-a piece of non-asked-for advice-put it over some steam,
just enough to get things warm and piable-inside & out-and then plop that
baby right on yr noggin. Works for me- the hat will take on my head's characteristics much sooner; keep the hat on for a number of hours, and when you take it off, either hang it or put it on a hatstand to let it air dry.
I did this with a number of Vintage hats, and they did seem to relax-some hats (like an OR) could use a couple of treatments.
Just one man's thoughts...

ideaguy,

Thanks for the advice.

Travelling a bit farther down that road, if I steam this OR good and proper, can I pop it back out to an open crown?

If so, I'd like to rebash it into a C Crown.
