Stetson Globester - anyone have or seen one?

I was looking for a nice dark brown hat to round out my recent purchases. I saw this hat last evening while browsing the web. I a curious what "ultra light" means. Maybe our Hatco member could enlighten me.

It reminds me of a smaller Campdraft with the thin ribbon and trimmed brim edge. To get a mid-brown Campdraft I expect it would be a 3 month wait from Everything Australian. Also maybe this Globester is a special order and not a stock item so the wait time argument could be mute. I'll slip in a second question. For the Campdraft, how brown is mid-brown?

I honestly don't know anything about it. The only thing that strikes me right off about this compared to the Campdraft as it looks like the crown is much shorter and more tapered. It looks like my Stetson Gun Club Dune, only with a shorter brim. It will look more like that or a couple of the other Akubra hats than like a campdraft IMO.

For what it is worth, my Stetson Gun Club has proven to be a very reliable hat. If this is like that, it's a nice hat. However my Gun Club is not particularly light weight, though certainly not western weight either. Perhaps that is what they call light, lighter than western weight.

Looks to me like the OR except in another color, more tan-brown than the new silverbelly. If the felt is anything like the new OR though you won't like it. I know you like a nice soft hat, these are stiff as cardboard. Which is a shame because certainly Stetson could make a nice soft OR like they used to. This is like a stiff western hat which I am sure that is who buys them and they apparently sell the heck out of them so somebody likes them. But usually it isn't those who like the old OR and fedoras.

I've noticed the Globester and thought it was a nice hat, and the light weight sounds like a plus for me. I could never wear the 2-3/4" brim of an OR or Campdraft, and it does have some similar styling - more taper obviously which is OK by me. But I think it would be a good small-scale stand-in for an OR and appears to be in stock at Sterling

Re: the Roadmaster, I remember reading on another thread (from Hatco) that the Roadmaster is basically an OR in a natural color instead of silverbelly - he specifically mentioned that it has much less stiffener than an OR, as the context was a discussion on whether Hatco would ever offer the OR with an open crown - he suggested the Roadmaster as an alternative, as it might be easier to re-bash. I can't find the thread at the moment, though.

In another thread, HATCO replied that these weren't as shellac'ed as the regular OR's. Love to get one open crown if they are softer. That factory crease is too hard to alter.
You are correct that about liking a nice soft OR. Guess I'll stick with the Akubra Campdrafts.

I don't think I ever saw that thread and I don't think I have ever seen that model in person. Maybe one of the HATCO outlets has one you could order for less money and see what it is like. I'd be interested to know.

The roadmaster is a natural color sovereign quality dress body compared to the Open Road which is from our western bodies. The biggest difference is the amount of stiffener in the bodies...

The globester is a lightweight felt body. It's a thinner more pliable body compared to our regular dress bodies. It still has great water blocking capabilities though.

The crown is very low and very tapered. I would advise seeing and trying one on in person before buying one.

Thanks and I would agree that the hat should prob be seen first as the crown is very short and tapered, nothing at all really like the OR crown.

Can you answer the questions above about the Roadmaster, the stiffener, the felt weight. Is it an OR with less stiffener and a nat color, more like the old OR's?

When I say natural that means no die at all in the hat.

The weight of the felt is a normal dress weight. It's not a light weight felt nor is it a heavy felt.

It's hard to answer your question about comparing it to an old OR as there are so many iterations of that hat.

Similarities between Roadmaster and current OR:
Same Crease

Differences
Dress body vs OR western body
Much less stiffener in the roadmaster
Available only in natural
"Modern" matching sweatband and lining

The style didn't sell well so I can tell you we aren't carrying it over to next year.

That's pretty much what I thought. Thanks.

Most western hats wearers want a stiff hat, unlike us. It would have to be marketed and sold by the dressier shops I think. And maybe people aren't crazy about the natural color. It's a nice color to me.

I pulled the trigger on a Roadmaster from that site, got free shipping. $148 for Sovereign quality Stetson hat ain't a bad deal to me. Will probably leave it in the cattleman crease for horse shows & stuff. Will post review when it arrives.

Thanks Duper.
Gotta be a mare or my knot-headed gelding or possibly one of the fillies. I've had my fill of dealing with stud horses!!!

OK, curiosity killed this cat.

I have ordered a brown Stetson Globester. I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of an "ultra light" shipping box at my door.

Great minds think alike and so on - I ordered a Stetson Brewster from Sterling yesterday. Was your Globester in stock? I have a 4 week wait for mine like GTDean.
