Considering purchase of a Stetson Catera. I would request opinions regarding cutting the brim of the Stetson Catera down to 3" and re-shaping the brim style.

Ok; The majority of opinion is not to cut the brim of a catera. Regarding the Akubra suggestion; how does the Akubra Banjo Paterson compare to a stetson catera with regard to brim stiffness, durability and overall toughness when exposed to rain, snow, etc. Also, can the brim be shaped to lessen some of the turn down in both front and back? Thanks to all of you that responded to my first question.

I can't compare the two but my BP is worn with an outback style brim,no problem.

The BP isn't a western, its an outback hat. While you could change the brim, why not find an actual akubra western style and save yourself the trouble?
