Stetson book

I've seen several references to "The Stetson Book" mentioned. Specifically what book are we talking about?

Is it this one:
Stetson Hats And The John B. Stetson Company
1865-1970 by John B. Snyder

Are there other good books available for learning specifics about 1920-1960 Stetsons and other brands with pictures, models, trims, ads etc?
(one of you guys with the hat collections should do one)

Thanks,

Yes, that's the book. But frankly, it's not worth the money. The coverage of golden era dress hats is really limited - a huge section is devoted to 80's cowboy hats, for example. From the captions it looks like most of the the hats were from one or two people's collections, and the author didn't bother to branch out from there.
Also, the photography isn't great, the text is in sore need of editing, and in places the information is simply flat out wrong.

Also, magically, every hat in it is worth exactly $300 according to the author. [huh]

The only GREAT source for this info is the Fedora Lounge. :)

Thanks, that's kinda what I expected. I don't have book stores near by and would have to mail order sight unseen. I'd rather put that $40 towards a nice used hat.

I'm learning here.

It would be nice if one or 10 of you guys assembled a collection of Golden Hat Age magazine ads, model charts, photos, etc for us newbies to glean from. Big project in your "Spare Time".

Values are relative. Don’t need another “Price Guide”.

Thanks,

Yeah . . . I concur.

I recently picked up the Stetson book, and although I would not condemn it as worthless, I was disappointed. Certianly not worth the $30 bucks I shelled out.

Someone out there (and by that I mean someone who is probably a member of the FL) needs to come up with a really, really good fedora book . . . There are lots of auction guides, and antique guides available on other collectibles . . . some of which I think are far more obscure than fedoras . . .

Anyone up for the task?

I've been scouring the net for one for months now.....no such luck yet. I suppose it would have to be a Lounge Member for sure. I must say, in my short time here....there sure are plenty of well qualified for the job, that's for sure. :eusa_clap

Feltfan,
I'd certainly buy 4-5 copies of a "good" hat book and give them out.

I'd like to see a book with actual info on Golden Age fedoras and mens hats in general including collection photos, magazine ads, style charts, model names, colors available etc from Stetson, Cavanaugh, Disney, Dobbs, Adam etc.

Don't need another "Price Guide", rather lots of detail info.

Scientific Hat Finishing is often on Ebay for less than $10. I picked up a copy a couple of weeks ago but have not had time to read it yet.
