Two 7X CB's I've acquired over the last couple of months. They appear to be about a decade or so apart in age and both came from the same seller. One is 3 x 6 and the second, more recent vintage is 2 5/8 x 6.

Cont.
Super pair of Stetsons. A hell of a couple months i’d say.
Of all the hats Stetson has made, i’d argue long and hard that this one, the Last Drop CB 7x is the best hat they ever made.
I truly treasure mine as i’m sure you do to.
Glad you got one...err two!

Thanks. Bowen
Ps: and is there a Last Drop thread?

Is the “Last Drop” liner CB 7X substantially different from the other CB 7X hats?

Good question Brent.
Short answer...yes.
A pics worth a thousand words.
Left upper and lower are twin OR CB 7xs.
Right upper is embroidered Last Drop CB, not OR.
Right lower is 7x Fifty, does not say CB or OR but i figure it might be. I’ve never seen another one of those.
Not sure which is older than what, never checked.
Hope that helped.
Oh yeah, the Hundred LD has “Hundred” embroidered where 7X would be.
B
Ps: everything is maples. No stars in case of wonder.

Alright, I see some differences, but not why one is better than the others. Is the felt nicer on the Last Drop hat?

Ok, i was answering about the differences in liners not the felt etc differences. As far as better is concerned i can’t say.
To that, without a microscope and being totally subjective based on the hats i have. I would go out on a limb here and say, each hat being little worn and reasonably the same age. Also, that i have not re-creased any of the original creases so no comparison of mold-ability.
The Last Drop seems ever so slightly thinner felt and slightly finer pounced than the OR twins. The Fifty is much more worn so no comparison. The Last Drop compared to a slightly more modern One Hundred is every bit as nice felt. I’ll take the Last Drop over the Hundred (this one) all day.
I believe it all comes down to how well they were pounced as in many hats.
Just my observations. Ymmv

Thanks, Bowen. The chances of me having my own selection to compare and contrast isn’t likely.

In a "blind" feel and shape test, no discernible difference was found. Both hats have an identical finish and feel with a slight color variation between the two. The brims of both hats are quite stiff with the L D liner hat being slightly more flexible but this may be due to the age differences in the hats. My Churchill Beaver 50 has a similar feel and finish comparable to these two which is not too surprising considering that they were all $50 hats during their day. Both crowns easily take a dry crease which gave me an understanding of the "clay like" feel folks speak of. None of my hats, 100's included have this.

On a side note, @alanfgag had mentioned in an earlier post that he found no true differences between these $50 hats and their $100 brethren outside the cases typically offered with them. I'm paraphrasing his remarks and hope that I didn't mangle them too badly but I couldn't agree more. I have two 100's, a Stetson and a Cavanagh, both from the 60's. The Cav crown is soft and shapeable but is also more of a dress weight hat. The Stetson is as stiff as any cowboy hat I own but is also more of a western weight as the 7X hats are.

This is good to know. Thanks for taking the time to compare them for us.

YES, that goes for me too!:( Any found in my size are just too expensive to take a try on.....but, Brent...at least you have one!;) I saw that one and was close to pulling the trigger but was unsure about getting a ribbon on it....and I did not know how stiff it would turn out to be. You did well for that hat!
M;)

Looking forward to checking this one out. 7X CB Last Drop, oil skin over the liner. Not a common find, I was moving fast because I was sure one of you other fellows would BIN it before me!

A little trouble with the sweat there, but nothing I’m sure Ignacio can’t fix on my next visit the MEX.

Daniel, that’s a fine example! I believe one of the early ones. I truly love a pristine hat but i have a special fondness for hats that have been somewhere. Hats with character. Hats that lived and were loved. I find i grab them far more often then a virginal one.
This one i’d grab and go and be happy when i got there. I often leave my 7Xs cause i just don’t want to mess them up. Sadly!!
Don’t let Iggy take the life outta this one.
She’s like a gorgeous woman with experience. Not a giggler! Lol

Ignacio won’t do anything bad to this hat, just make sure the sweat isn’t going to come off.
