Stetson 100 = one hundred dollars - mid 1950s on.

Stetson 5X and 7X clear beaver go back further, they sold at the top price points in Stetson's production western line prior to the introduction of the Stetson 100. Felt composition we generally assume here to have been pure beaver on all.
The 5X CB was the Thirty-Five & the 7X CB was the Fifty.
I recall reading "un-dyed pure beaver fur". Probably will always remain a mystery.

It's possible that like so many of these hat terms, "clear beaver" meant one thing in 1935 and had drifted to a very different definition by 1955.

It does seem that most Loungers would agree that any hat with the designation was made exclusively of beaver fur. Whether it was all belly fur or undyed may not be quite so certain in all cases. Although that does sound like a great reason for creating the term (otherwise, why not just "pure beaver"?).

One other certainty is that everyone on the Lounge would love to have a clear beaver hat, as long as it fits.

Here’s another 40s 5X Clear Beaver, another nearly instant eBay BIN from a while back. If the 7X CBs mold like clay, this 5X CB is thinner, finer, and molds like butter.

Found a hens tooth! This is the first time I bought a used hat that, I think, would benefit from a proper cleaning. While it’s there, I’m going to see if it can be bumped a size, too. Better felt then my two 7XCBs, hands down. 52 block 6x3:

Wow! A great hat!

And a very nice National Recovery Act tag there. 1933-1935. Pretty good identifier.
