I can relate. I likewise hate the term "vintage". I wish somebody would come up with something better. Mid Century doesn't do much for me either. Quibble, quibble.

I think when you say the name aloud, it means youve commited to a said genera, vintage, punk, indie, emo, etc etc. I know I have a hard time saying 'vinage' too.

I want to think of myself and my kindred as so cool we dont have a genera.

We do, we are, just live with it. lol

Love that keyboard! Would like to see someone come up with a laptop that resembles an old portable typewriter.

My son watches those anime films. His favorite of the steampunk design has been SteamBoy. I sat and watched it with him. It was pretty good actually and didn't look like any cartoon I've ever seen before. Lots of Victorian clothing and architecture ... intermingled with primitive robots and weapons machinery.

Here is a link to a FL thread, including an appearance by the fellow that created the keyboard. You should see some of his other creations! It also features some cool deco-inspired computer components.

Steampunk's cool. I've never been a huge fan of Victorian style (blame British authors), so I never paid much closer attention. Theoretical steam technology itself is neat-o, though.

I'd probably be more partial to the 19th cent. American alternative: Wild Wild West with Will Smith had a steampunk spider and Kevin Kline. Hah. I 've never seen the originals.

I've always liked the idea, all 20,000 Leagues, Wild Wild West, Time Machine and all that but I find I hate the name. [huh]

I prefer the name Kaja Foglio came up with for the genre. She refers to it as "Gaslight Fantasy".

The audio equipment that my company manufactures is not quite steampunk. It is more 1936 futuristic. Here's some pictures:

Take a look at this "half google" someone made. The more I investigate the Steampunk community the more I love the creativity I find there.

This reminds me of the gadgets Johnny Depp used in Sleepy Hollow.

I watched "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" recently, only because I had seen it mentioned here a couple of times. I found myself violently oscillating between "This is idiotic",

dhermann1 - If you ever get the chance, read the League of Extraordinary Gentleman comic book that the movie is based on. It's way better. I'm not even a comic book fan (The League and Sock Monkey are the only two comics I've ever really enjoyed), but I still like it very much.
