The only bad part being that my need to read list has almost doubled.

I think Michael Moorcock's collection A Nomad of the Timestreams is pretty much the genesis of the genre. A darned good read, to boot. The stories take kind of a dim view of Americans, however.

I dabble in writing "dieselpunk" (I can't stand the "-punk" suffix either) stuff, but I have difficulty ever finishing anything. I think I know too much about actual history and have trouble setting that aside and being completely free.

Perhaps this strays too far from the subject, but anyone who likes alternate 20th Century history would probably enjoy Harry Turtledove's Timeline-191 stories. They're not truly dieselpunk because all the technology is appropriate to the era (albeit named slightly different) but they're still good reading.

But she was! Haven't you seen the second National Treasure? :D

No, I haven't. Although, if Prince Albert hadn't used his last days to defuse what Harrison used as his flashpoint/"point of divergence", Victoria was certainly enough of a looneytune to go for it... power and emotion, not good bedfellows! Especially when you add Hapsburg congenital insanity on top of it...

Come to think of it, CinC-House has been talking about that one, so if they're both still running, I'm thinking to suggest a doubleheader with Charlie Wilson's War. May even be able to use the "regular" passes now...:D

If you have to ask, Sugar... ;) (Probably at least your firstborn, with an option on a later infant)

I read a reference to dressing "steampunk" and was unfamiliar w/ the term. So I checked Wikipedia.
Was wondering if anyone here experiments w/ this pseudo-victorian sci-fi look.

My passion for steampunk is actually how I found this forum. I am currently working on disguising a Zune with a pocketwatch chain with vintage styled suits.

I do love the Steampunk aesthetic:

I ran across this today - a German built Steampunk motorcycle that uses a 1440cc single cylinder engine from a tractor and has a front fork built with ash bound in iron. It appears to be based on a motorcycle from a comic book.

The shovel seat is a little over the top for me, but still, the overall look and design is amazing.
