Statuesque Hats

This might be a fun thread, thought I, the idea being to place a hat with a public statue, and not necessarily on the statue's head.

(There have been several superb examples here on the Lounge before, and I rely on those of you with eidetic memories or superior search skills to locate any you can remember and place them in this thread to get things started. A pure white marble man sitting on a bench comes to mind, but where is he?)

We have some seasoned and active travelers in our midst, so the possibilities for creative and impressive photos are many.

Here is my humble offering, one of my Borsalinos being gazed upon with adoration by Hebe, Greek Goddess of Youth, daughter of Zeus and Hera, a 12-foot tall bronze right here in little old Roseburg.

Nice thread idea, Randall! Your scene looks fine, and you really have me curious how you got your lid up to that 12-foot dame's hand. And David, I find it funny how you may be smaller than your stone-faced friend, but you wear a wider brim!

I remember putting a fedora on a vampire mannequin at the college library and getting a laugh out of a few friends, but I neglected to take a photo. I'll keep my eyes out for artful hat/statue combinations. Maybe including store mannequins would help this thread grow?

DNO, that's just awesome! :D

Steven, mannequins are most welcome; they are the modern age's answer to bronze, after all!

Good question about how I got that hat up there. I used a 5-foot walking stick. It was raining, too, as you can tell by Hebe's apparent skin condition.

(Interesting side note about the Hebe statue: the local population included an anti-art, whacky contingent that tried to block the installation based on the fact that Hebe's nipples are discernible beneath her "garb." Unreal, but that's where I live. :eeek:)

. . . . a statue nonetheless!

It should be fun to see what you folks come up with. If Roseburg, Oregon has a respectable bronze, so must every small-to-medium size city the world over. (See how I took the pressure off you big city dwellers, who are blessed with scores of public sculptures?)

I remember that, and if my memory serves me correctly it was posted by Scottyrocks in the "I love the Fed IV" thread in the hats section. I also beleive that it was in NY. BTW great idea for a thread.

Great idea for a thread. I'm on the hunt for statues to adorn. Maybe there will be multiple Loungers visiting a particular statue at different times. Popularity contest in the making.
