Starting to see more hats

This weekend around London I saw well over 20 men wearing fedora-type hats, and even a few with what appeared to be vintage 50's/60's pieces as well.

Just this morning I saw a well dressed bloke in the Angel Tube station, with what appeared to be a tall-crowned Herbert Johnson (a lá Indiana Jones), he well dressed to boot. It is a refreshing sight to see a spiffy, hatted person as opposed to hoodie-wearing, Burberry emblazoned chavs.

On one hand it is good, as I'll no longer be the only hatted person in a sea of bare heads... on the other, it is bad - as there will be even more competition for the primo vintage lids (and that is a tight race already)!

Yes, indeed.

Even in Dublin I think it is becoming more commonplace. I think the advantages outway the disadvantages with the resurgence of hat wearing.

I would often now see a couple of hats being worn around Grafton Street when I'm in there.

I think this is a good thing!

I am seeing more and more fedoras around these parts as well.
Think about it, with all of the competition for vintage lids on eBay, somewhere, someone, besides us has to be wearing them!

My hope for the resurgence of the fedora could is a return in quality by the larger hatmakers. I always hope a demand for quality would push them to produce better hats.
Once the vintage supply is used up someone will have to step up and make a quality hat. We current have two or three of these independent hatters. I suggest we take advantage of 'em!

Now I KNOW fedoras are making a comback! I've seen a few pop up on tv lately, on Law Order and such, but I got a shock this weekend when a Fedora turned up on Battlestar Galactica! Granted, it wasn't a felt dress hat, but never the less a fedora style hat, worn by sci-fi stalwart Dean Stockwell!

I think I am starting to see more hats as well. It only took what, 45 years? Wasn't Kennedy's lack of a top hat at his inagural that led to the decline of the hat wearing man? Whether it is a real trend or not, it's nice. It's amazing since I started wearing fedora style hats on a more regular basis the attention you get. It just seems to command respect from some people.

Someone correct me if I a wrong but Kennedy did wear a top hat to his presidential inauguration! I believe he set it aside when he made his acceptance speech and wore it sparingly during the parade that followed. It is true that Kennedy shunned headwear as much as possible. There was quite a lively competiton among the hatmakers to get Kennedy to wear their company's hat. The trend towards hatlessness (?) preceded Kennedy by a few decades. His presidency could be seen as the "nail in the coffin".
Here we all are removing that nail.

I am seeing a large number of fedoras, trilbys, stingy brims, porkpies, etc. -- both felt and straw, being worn this summer here in California. By both males and females, typically cocked back on their heads.

I've even seen a couple of (real) boaters, a few bowlers and a number of Homburgs to boot.

Not el cheapo costume hats either. Is this development fairly new? What are you seeing in your neck of the woods? Thanks.

We live about a forty minute drive from a popular tourist beach, there's a fad among younger ladies to wear the big floppy sun hat. A few years ago, the Dutch singer, Caro Emerald, appeared on the front of her CD release in such a hat, did it spawn a craze, who knows? But the floppy hat does give the face good protection from strong sunshine, so maybe there's more to it than a craze. This is Caro Emerald in that hat:

Baseball style caps, Seedcorn caps, Feed store caps, mostly agriculture caps of some sort, and a few cowboy hats. That is what you see in small town Nebraska anyway.

My wife wears a hat more often than I do. She has a very fair complexion and fears the sun. She’s made sunscreen manufacturers a small fortune.

I don’t think one man in ten wears any kind of hat where I live unless they’re working outdoors I see mostly ball caps and cheap “straw” westerns when I see anything at all. In the winter I’ll see the occasional wool cap. Aside from the college crowd, it’s mostly farmers and ranchers where I’m at and cheap feed/farm store hats and caps reign supreme.

I see a good amount of Goorin hats. Not too surprising, because there's three of their stores in the bay area. Imagine that, three brick and mortar stores selling $100+ wool hats. Three of em.

Obviously it's not a bad business model, by offering a ::cough:: 'premium' alternative to fast fashion brands. Priced at a point just high enough to make it seem "luxe" to the average consumer.

I do see an increasing number of wide brim hats actually. Some floppy straw ones, but flat brim felt hats are kind of a "thing." IMHO this is spillover from Fouquet's celebrity clientele (although seeing less of his in the rounds, thankfully). Also, Beyonce's black hat look has become pretty iconic in its own right, and I think that's moved the needle.

I'm also in California, about 15 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. I can't say I've noticed an increase in hats of any kind, except perhaps the ubiquitous ball cap favored by so many.

I can only recall seeing 3 people besides myself wearing something other than a baseball cap in my area over the past 7 or 8 months. 1 wearing a straw porkpie of some sort back in January; 1 carrying a nice, but inexpensive looking straw hat a couple months ago in line at the Popeyes chicken on base; and 1 wearing a worn straw hat while driving a forklift in one of the buildings I manage.
