I have used Lexol, but it isn't as thick as I would like. There is another heavy oil I have used that many members here swear by, but the name escapes me. It comes in both an oil and a paste/grease. I think once I warmed some Pecard (in the sun) and used that after it got more liquid. Just put some on a cloth or a sponge and rub it in the seams. Doesn't take long to apply, and it is fairly long lasting, as in more than a year, if I remember correctly.

I tried Obenauf's on a squeaky jacket. Worked for about a month then the squeaks returned. In this case I am pretty sure it is the pigment topcoat that is squeaking. Stitching plays no role. I flexed the arm in the elbow - squeaks came from the topcoat rubbing against itself. May be different with other jackets.

Sorry for the late reply folks. Family duties. Thanks for all the theories, recommendations and insights. I've some lexol and will give that a try. Just a few points of clarification.

1. I DON'T squeak. I'm old so I snap, crackle and pop like a bowl of rice crispies but I do NOT squeak. I also grunt and groan... a lot.

2. My dad used to use WD 40 on his arthritic joints (and anything else he thought would work) but I'm scared to use that on the GW as it's light colored and I don't want to stain it.

3. Also, until real Jacket/Shearling weather starts I mostly hang out in the Film Forums. I visit here daily but generally leave more posts over there. They get my warped sense of humor down in film world. Also I've been getting sucked into the world of books again which is a good thing.

my jacket made the loudest squeak one time when I moved on my seat against pleather cinema seat when watching "The Nun", sounded like Ross's leather pants hijab wearing woman sitting 2 seats from me cover her nose with the hanging cloth on her head thinking I farted... I want to say something... but decided, I just moved again to make more squeaks to explain the situation better.

I really love my new JL jacket, but the squeakage was absolutely ridiculous and downright annoying. I am talking crazy, stupid, loud. I was hoping wear would quiet it down somewhat. My 618 was kinda loud in the beginning and is now almost silent after some wear. My older Vanson hardcore highwayman is almost silent now. It actually seems like my JL is getting louder. I have to do something. I was debating over water, talcum powder, or conditioner.

I absolutely couldn't take the noise any longer and I hastily went with the conditioner. I had bought some Vanson conditioner, and I am not sure why. lol. I have very little experience with conditioners, I just wear my jackets and didn't feel like they needed anything yet.

I had an old table that I was hoping someone would take sitting outside. I laid my jacket on the table out in the sun to warm it up a bit (it was about 50 degrees and sunny out). I did not notice the table was dirty and dusty until I flipped my jacket over. I had to wipe down the jacket and table. The table was also wobbly and caused me to spill the conditioner. The Vanson conditioner is watery, almost like a thick milk.

The liquidly conditioner quickly soaked into the leather. There was nothing to wipe off afterwards. I applied it with my fingers. I was also dipping my fingers into the puddle that I created.

It drastically quieted the jacket down so far. I am not sure how long it will last. It is not silent, but ALOT quieter. I think I will apply another coat pretty soon.

Glad you found something that works... even if it's temporary. Most of my jackets are pretty quiet except that one dang GoodWear. Walking, driving, moving in my seat, you name it it's a squeaking! May have to take measures!

congrats, maybe the conditioner would work on rejuvenating wood grain too

No need to condition the entire jacket; that is quite the chore. The squeaking comes from the threads rubbing against the leather. Simply apply conditioner on the seams.

All my squeaky jackets where squeaking from the pits, never from anywhere else.
All i do is grab my Pecard's rag, rub it in the pits and the jackets are silent.
If/when it comes back i give them another rub.
