I'm beginning to get concerned that the lady involved in this endeavor can't possibly spend this much time worrying about what she's wearing. Granted, Honda only started this, and we (I posted one too) and we piled on, but jeez, we're guys, we aren't supposed to act like this except over cars, guns, and hats.

Looks good to me.

I wear blue jeans and a button down shirt to work almost every day and I keep a sports coat at my desk in case it gets cold. So I usually wear it daily, got to love AC. I also wear it with cowboy boots so it usually has a western flare. Just my style.

Remember to wear a belt and shoes.... that match.

I am against jeans for two reasons:

1. Jeans are great, but they just do not in my opinion flatter most people who are not rail thin.

2. The jeans with sport coat look is to me dated.

But it ain't that big a deal. Go with what you've got.

The perfect attire for those who want to distinguish themselves from the Jeans/T-Shirt ensemble that's typical of the masses, though aren't classy enough for a full suit. It's reasonably casual and in my opinion, the outfit of choice for those who want to look trendy, yet unsuccessfully smart at the same time.

My thoughts...

Jeans and Sports Coat can look terrific when it is done properly, and look disastrous when it is done hodge-podge (such as blue blazer with blue jeans).
I personally wear a great lambswool plaid coat with jeans and a shirt (no tie) when I wander about quite often. I actually picked the fabric with jeans in mind.

The other thought that many are missing, is the simple fact that men are wearing coats again after years of not. This is a good sign.

The italians particularly seem to have the sports coat and jeans look down to a fine art i think. I'm not averse to seeing it on a chap if it's done well and with due care and attention to detail.

I know it's late, but can I just point out to a lot of posters that jeans and sports coat is not a modern look but has been around in the "Golden Era"? In old photographs you see workmen wearing sport coats and even odd suit jackets with far more casual clothing such as overalls. There is a Bogart/Bacall film set in France where his character wears jeans and sport coats throughout the film.

I personally don't wear jeans and sport coats because I never wear jeans, but I appreciate that the look can look very effective on anyone providing the clothes fit. I think on a date it's a very appropriate look because it shows you made an effort to dress up but also didn't overdress. Not that overdressing on a date is wrong either. A year and five months ago I wore a black pinstriped suit, a grey tie and a grey hat on a date and I'm still together with the lady I met (though my lady new I like wearing suits and liked that, hence I wear one on most days now).

That said, sport coat and jeans look like the wearer should be standing in front of a brick wall telling jokes.

I pair a patterned sport coat with a solid button-down shirt and jeans all the time, with a pair of Florsheim cognac pebble-grain longwing brogues. When the weather turns cooler you can layer in a sweater vest or cardigan.

With solid sport coats I go with patterned button-down shirts, rest of the outfit the same as above. Some guys like to wear polo shirts with jeans/sport coats but I just don't like the look on me.

Don't neglect the shoes - they make or break the outfit. As for the hat, I usually go with a thin-ribbon strat clone in a coordinating shade.

I've always worn either polo shirts or t-shirts and jeans. I've decided I'd like to dress nicer. I've been reading up on sports coats and jeans. Most I've read is....yes, when done correctly.
Fitted jeans, never baggy.
Not faded, but a nice dark indigo blue.
Fitted, button down dress shirt
Nice dress shoes, either brown or black.
Dress belt matching shoe color.
Throw on a panama or fedora, and it looks sharp.
Google jeans and sports coat images, and you can see how sharp it can look.
I even like a tie and waist coat with it.

Here's a variation on the jeans-sport coat theme I wore this week in the rain. I went with wheat colored jeans which, based on pictorial evidence, were pretty popular on college campuses in the '50s and '60s (pre-White Rabbit). IMHO, jeans need equally heavy and textured sport coats and sweaters, etc., for it to work. So, as below, I went with a heavy tweed herringbone jacket, an Oxford cloth shirt, a cotton-cashmere sweater and heavy wool socks so that everything felt similar in casualness and texture / fabric "weight."

When I wear a tweed jacket I almost always wear it with dark jeans. If I wore corduroy or twill with it I’d look just like all the Welsh farmers on a day out around here. Just a bit smarter than most of them. Though my old doctor here had a nice range of quite flashy tweed suits. He looked a bit like a pox doctor’s clerk sometimes though.
