Does that include musicians? When I played on stage in a younger life, I would wear sunglasses or a ball cap, preferably the cap, to keep the lights out of my eyes.

I think the sunglasses inside thing got started with the jazz musicians who wore them to alter reality just a bit when they played. My reason was much more mundane: I have light sensitive eyes; kleig lights and spotlights are bright.

Thank goodness S&B got us away from the turned up collars discussion!

When I was about 13, I wore a red McGregor Anti Freeze with the collar turned up. That was the only way to wear it. James Dean had been dead for five years or so, but he lived on in our memory with our red jackets. It wasn't until I became a young adult and saw Rebel that I understood why we wore the red jackets.
