Spidi Worker Wax Jacket -- Anyone own one?

I have been looking for a waxed cotton riding jacket for a long time. Well, in reality, I've been looking for something to wear on the bike from time to time that isn't leather, especially in cooler weather. I like the look and features of the Spidi Worker Wax jacket and am thinking of picking one up. Any TFLer own one? They are next to impossible to find in the States.

I already tried the Robinson. Didn't fit. The medium was too big, and the small too small. I was on a wait list when it first came out earlier this year -- super disappointed that it didn't fit after waiting months to get it. But the guys at Union Garage were good to deal with. I recently ordered some overpants from them.

Really nice jacket though. Nice details. D30 armor in all the right spots, and the armor was easy to adjust. The only thing I didn't like was the throat latch -- kinda crappy quality. Other than that, it was a sweet jacket, and worth the money.

That looks like a nice coat. I have a Jackhammer by Outback Trading. Similar but less pockets and was around 100.00 dollars. They also have different styles.

I called Spidi (which apparantly is located in Vicenza -- kind of funny given the name of Insurrection's new FQHH) and they said the jacket is not imported to the US because they can't even keep up with demand in the EU. So I ordered one from them directly. Amazingly, the confirmation email said it should be here by Tuesday of next week. I'll believe that when I see it. It better fit. Return shipping to Italy is gonna suck.

Looks a lot like the Belstaff Trialmaster or the Beaufort Intenational. The Trialmaster is all over the fashion mags since Belstaff begin posing David Beckham in one in a new ad campaign.

Characteristics are waxwd cotton finish, slanted upper pockets, and two bellows lower pockets.j

Very similar, yes.... Sadly, Belstaff stopped doing the angled breast pocket some years ago. Of debatreable difference to me as a southpaw, but it's the look of the thing more than functionality. Intersting the two jackets above dispense with the belt. They are a couple of inches shorter, though if they're neater cut than the originals they perhaps dispense with the need to be belted in. Speaking from experience, the belts can get in the way a bit when they're new and you're wearing the jacket open...


Of the two above, I much prefer the Vanson; aesthetics, really - the slanted pocket, per tradition, and I'm just more of a snaps/buttons guy than velcro...

Yes they do seem to have brought that back over the past couple of years.

Really depends which part of the Belstaff line you are talking about to of course, they produce a wide range of high end fashion jackets and also a range focused more on motorcycling and protection - The Pure motorcycle Range (http://www.belstaff.co.uk/on/demandware.store/Sites-bffgb-Site/en_GB/GeoShow-Search?cgid=130 ) which is probably more comparable to the Spidi Jacket

Ah, I see I'm out of date. It does indeed seem they've reintorduced it on some lines. Nice to see; to my mind, that anglec pocket is as integral to the style as the zip teeth down the lft lapel on a Perfecto type jacket.

Rechecking yet again, I see that you're right-- the fashionistas now don't get the slanted pocket in their Trialmasters, as this pix of David Beckham seem to show. By contrast, Steve McQueen in an ISDT event, circa 1964, gets a VERY slanted pocket.

Also note the careful Belstaff homages to McQueen-- right down to the bike details and weather, putting Beckham in the same poses as The King of Cool.

Are you sure that's a Belstaff in the photos with McQueen? It might depend on the event... when he rode for the US team, he wore a Barbour International, Barbour being the official sponsor and equipment provider, but when he rode privately, he wore his own Belstaff. At that point in time both were pretty much identical; I think it was much later that Barbourf started to put the big logo on the outside pocket flap...

I think Edward may be right. A little Googling suggests that he wore a Belstaff at home in California, but the Barbour at '64 ISDT:

Which makes it doubly interesting that Belstaff is promoing the whole drizzly-weather-band-of-motorcycle-brothers vision. They're doing everything short of stapling a Steve McQueen portrait to Beckham's forehead, in an ad campaign that is running worldwide in heavy rotation.

Jacket was supposed to arrive today. DHL tracking says it is currently in Belgium. I knew the arrival estimate was too good to be true...

Well the Spidi jacket arrived yesterday -- and its too small. I am solidly a size 40, so I ordered a large based on the size chart from Spidi. Apprarantly, Italians have narrow shoulders -- the jacket is perfect in the body, but very tight up top. And it even has gusseted shoulders. Broad shoulders and Spidi don't mix I guess.

This stinks. Sending it back to Italy is expensive, and if the return shipment incurs import duties/taxes, I'm on the hook for them. I'm probably looking at well over $100 to ship it back, all things considered. What a pain.

But the jacket is nicely constructed, the waxed cotton shell is awesome. Its a damn fine jacket...if it fits you.
