"Gloomy Sunday" by Holiday is surely one.
"Crazy" by Patsy Cline brings back all kinds of memories
"Tears in Heaven" by Clapton because of the story behind it- then, it was on the radio when we took one of our cats to be "put to sleep" (19 years old- kidney failure) It brings back all those memories.
"Killing the Blues" by Chris Smither gets to me
but perhaps the biggest one to me

+1 on "Strange Fruit" by Billie Holliday. I am thinking of a live recording where she almost loses it herself on the last word ("c-cr-r-oooop!")

And definitely Tom Waits....back when I was young and silly and drank a lot more I spent many a night nursing the wounds of romantic angst with "Blue Valentine", "Martha" and many others.

"Expecting to Fly" by Neil Young always gets me misty eyed, syrupy strings and whatnot.

Robin Trower's stuff from the 70s was good for a crying jag or two...."Long Misty Days", "Bridge of Sighs", "Hannah", etc etc.

"Heartaches" by Ted Weems makes my happiest and saddest song list. It reminds me of an old Gf's dad, who was an amazing man and more of a father figure to me than my real dad. He died of cancer at 59 and I only knew him a few years but he was really special and affected my life deeply.

I first heard it on an old Library of Congress archives LP of Tin Pan Alley tunes, including a version of "Shoe Shine Boy" by Louis Armstrong that absolutely destroys me every time I hear it....I had the same reaction Django Reinhardt had upon first hearing Satchmo - I dropped my head in my hands and sobbed tears of joy and wonder.

For chills, "L.A. County" by Lyle Lovett always does the trick.

For a long time anything by Joanna Newsom would make me cry, especially "Sadie". I first started listening to her when I was going through a rough time and her music was just so beautiful. So for a long time after that I associated her music with sadness.

Now it's been awhile and I can listen to her again, but I still get the shivers.

Also, "Breathe Me" by Sia. Mostly because it's what they played on the series finale of Six Feet Under. Which makes me a dork.
