I thought this would be interesting. What song lyrics did you misinterpret when you were a kid or pre-teen? Let's keep things PG though... ;)

I'm 37, so I was a pre-teen/teen during the 80s, so that's where most of my musical memory resides.

In that Irene Cara (sp?) song, "Oh what a feeling" from the very cheesy 80s movie "Flashdance" I used to think the song went:

"Take your __nts down and make it happen" In actuality, the lyrics were, "Take your passions and make it happen."

There was a Wang Chung song that I used to mess up too, but I can't remember which one it was.

lol

My cousin said those lyrics to the song till he was like 12. :eusa_doh: EVERYTIME he came over Id make him sing that song. Ah the humiliation, er memories.

My gran told me about a boy she used to jive with in the fifties, who thought the words to 'Shake Rattle and Roll' were 'Shake Marilyn Monroe.' :D

I'll admit to one. I thought Simon and Garfunkel's _Scarbourough Fair_ was from the movie, _Rosemary's Baby_. It was obvious afterall. Wasn't the song's refrain, "Can we save Rosemary in time?"

Haversack.

What's Love Got to do With it
- I thought- "what's love but a sucking ten and notion" [huh]

Actually - What's love but a second hand emotion

Found Love on a Two Way Street

- I thought - I found love on a two way street and left it on a one way highway

Actually - I found love on a two way street and left in on a lonely highway

Fame
- I thought- Baby remember my name Christopher!, Christopher! Christopher! -

Actually - Baby remember my name, Remember, Remember, Remember!

Daddy

There was this song I LOVED when I was a teenager by a group called DeeLite called Groove is in the Heart. The main singer sang - "groove is in the heart" over and over again. One day, my dad bangs on my door and yells, "turn that crap down! Boomin' in the white socks (Groove is in the heart) what kind of foolishness is that anyway!" We STILL laugh at that.

There is no pompetous.

Stolen from the Interwebs of truthiness:

Pompetous- Steve Miller mis-hearing an earlier lyric by the Medallions... "puppetutes" a word coined by Vernon Green.

AC/DC never did record a song that went:
"Dirty deeds and a dunder Jeep."

OR

"dirty deeds and a thunder chief." which was my alternate interpretation.

I think I might exude my youth in this one.

I thought Billy Ocean's "Caribbean Queen" was "Pair of blue jeans."

And

AC/DC's "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)" was "If You Want Love (You've Got It)."

And that's how I used to sing those songs. :D

When I was a child, I thought the lyrics were:

He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes are wrapped and stored...

Another song:

Stand beside her, and guide her, through the night with a light from a bulb.

The last line of Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit:

I heard them sing feed your head, some heard keep your head. Because it was a drug song, I assume it was "feed," not "keep." But, maybe I better re-read Alice in Wonderland.

Folks songs, some of the original lyrics lost in time, have many line interpretations. You can get several versions of the same line, just by Googling Wildwood Flower.

Warbird: I also heard "wrapped up like a douch." Thanks for telling me what the real lyrics are.

Shamed to say that I listened to 98 degrees as a child...but I thought they said

Your hair brush is mine instead of Your hair brushes mine

I heard it the other day and I litterally laughed out loud the other day thinking how silly I was thinking he said that her hair brush belonged to him...

Steve, Long live the 80's! That was my decade too!!
You're probably thinking of Wang Chung's,
Everybody Have Fun Tonight

I'd drive a million miles, to be with you tonight
So if youre feeling low, turn up your radio
The words we use are strong, they make reality
But now the musics on, oh baby dance with me

Rip it up - move down
Rip it up - move it down to the ground
Rip it up - cool down
Rip it up - and get the feeling not the word

This is the part that I had trouble understanding:
Everybody have fun tonight
Everybody wang chung tonightEverybody have fun tonight
Everybody wang chung tonightEverybody have fun.

I thought they were saying, everybody watching tonight.
Anyway what did they really mean by, everybody wang chung tonght?

Miss Lucy June, You almost have it right. It's your hand brushes mine.

All I am, all I'll be
Everything in this world
All that I'll ever need
Is in your eyes
Shining at me
When you smile I can feel
All my passion unfolding
Your hand brushes mine
And a thousand sensations
Seduce me 'cause I

I Do, Cherish You
For the rest of my life
You don't have to think twice
I will love you still
From the depths of my soul
It's beyond my control
I've waited so long to say this to you
If you're asking do I love you this much!!

That's a great song!
Miss Lucy June, there's no reason to be ashamed of liking 98 Degrees.

Their music was far superior to the llamo N'Sync and Backstreet Boys.
