Went to religious services recently, and lost my 1920's Sweetheart Pin. Someone turned it into Lost and Found and I get to pick it up and wear it again! :eusa_clap

What nice things have happened to you regarding Vintage Events, or items?

That's so nice to hear Vintage Betty!

My vintage style tortiseshell glasses have been slipping down my nose most annoyingly lately, so yesterday I stopped at my local spectacle shop. Even though I didn't purchase my glasses from that shop the gentleman spent about 15 minutes reshaping the arms. He mentioned that the lenses were scratched (I'm tough on my specs) and said he could get rid of those for me if I'd like. I said I'd like. When I asked what I owed him he smiled and said "no charge".

Yay for locally owned neighborhood shops! And guess where I'm buying my next pair of glasses?

This did not happen yesterday - but I still remember it as a very special thing.
Unknow to me, I had dropped a ZIPPO lighter in a cab. Not just a ZIPPO - but a very old ZIPPO - from WWII, that I got from my father.
Some hours later - when I needed a smoke - I realized it was gone.
But I did not think about the cab - I could have left it at the meeting I had been to. Or at the restaurant where I had lunch, or dropped it on the street...anywhere. So I kind of got used to the fact, that it was gone for ever.

The next day a cabdriver turned up in the reception at the ad-agency where I worked, with my ZIPPO.
He had found it on the seat, and remebered that he had driven me to the agency.

I still have it.

I have a tendancy to leave my take out meal on the counter at a restaurant. Most of the time they remind me when I am heading out the door. Once I was already out and at the end of the block and one of the waiters ran to me with my meal in her hand.

SHUFFLED off to...
Quite a few years back I was...asked to leave the Bronx and to do so...quickly. In my hasty departure I was forced to leave a good amount of my personal possessions - clothing and, to my heartbreak, my vintage Stetson Stratoliner - behind. I thought it was gone for good. Then one day, a few months later, a friend from the City was visiting and in the back window of his Honda, there it was - my Stratoliner! I asked how he came about it and he said that he was told to give it to "Jeff", but thinking it another Jeff. Well, I quickly retrieved it and still have it to this day!

But I haven't been back to the Bronx, though.

Good thing the other Jeff didn't get it!
I had a big furry cheap coat that had been my grandmother's but as she moved in with us when I was born I have a lot of her things and it wasn't overly sentimental. It was from the 70s I think, acquired secondhand, really nothing special. It was in the back seat of the car for the dogs to sit on and I was going to donate it to the Salvation Army because it was big on me but my dad, of all people, persuaded me to wear it out to the club on really cold nights. I left it on a barstool as usual and at 2 it was gone! Everyone helped me look for it, lost cause, someone said some broad left wearing it, no buttons and all. BUT! She left her much nicer, chic 50s furry coat with beautiful buttons, cut and fit. The club owner told me to wear it in good health.
