Was getting ready to put in an order for a Simmons Bilt classic biker. Was going to go with the Lux leather (teacore) either black or dark brown. The big thing for me is I already have 2 Schott black cross zips, so was looking for something reasonably different. I figured either a brown jacket instead of black, or black teacore with brass hardware instead of nickel could justify it my head. I know, the games we must play.

But now today I spot on the Aero pages an Indian Ranger. Oh wow, what a beauty. Black HH Jerky (which from what I understand is Lux-esque). So check there. Cool hardware. Check check.

What's scaring me though is the back length. 24.75. I'm 6'0. I'm thinking this is going to sit on top of my belt line, maybe a smidge under. More importantly, I've got a couple other Aero's and their website measurements are always longer than what they are. That's usually like one person pulling the leather and another measuring. So it might be closer to 24.25 or 24.5, so now that really scares me.

Curious if there's any other 6 footer out there with a 24.5-24.75ish back length jacket to show me what it looks like. I know there's a ton of variables (low rise, high rise, some design, etc.). Most of my jackets are 26, going to go re-measure a couple I think are closer to 25. But I now for sure I have nothing sub 25.25. And usually I'm wearing low to mid rise jeans/chinos.

The sleeve length is a tad short as well at 25.25. I'm usually a 26 to get to that sweet spot between wrist bone and first knuckle. But I've got a jacket at 25 that would probably be bare minimum for me. So 25.25 is not as crazy as the potential back length.

The other option is go with SB as planned, get the back length I want, etc.. I was thinking about not having epaulettes either. But then I got like a 6 week build time and probably a little more expensive jacket.

First world problems, I know. Crazy this is the stuff I think about during the day.

I’m 6-1 and often pass by very nice jackets due to length issues.
yeah, I'm diving into some former threads. I think 24.75, most likely less, is too short. I know some can pull off that above the belt look, but it ain't me. Plus the jacket is very tapered, so I feel like if it's too short, it will look matador-ish to not allow the lines to properly lay out.

I'll talk to Carrie about ordering one and how much it would cost vs. the SB model. The Aero price was pretty good given the jerky leather, lining and all that. But then I guess I need to factor in shipping, customs and all that.

It really depends on the pattern some jackets can have a short back and look good, some jackets with a short back will be too sort in the front:

Bunch of pics and measurements in there:

you're the devil on my right shoulder, Carlos. Damn you LOL. I got an email out to Carrie to see if I start over what the cost difference will be. I wanted my next cross zip to be sans epaulettes. Love how Mr. Proper's turned out. So that maybe the deciding factor as well. But appreciate the info as always and definitely good reference points for me and others.

I’m 5 feet, 11.65 in (182 cm - I used a converter to get what that is in your weird American measurement system ;)) and I have jackets that are just below 23 inches. They work just fine, but I always wear high rise jeans and trousers. Tbh - for a motorcycle style jacket I would almost be worried that 24.75 would almost be slightly too long for my tastes.

This is a trucker jacket with 22.8 back length paired with Wrangler original cowboy fit jeans, I don’t think it looks too short

This Aero 59’er highwayman is 23.6. I’m wearing the exact same jeans in this picture.

As you will perhaps note, the trucker has the shorter back but it looks a little bit longer on me. This is because of pattern differences around the neck hole which determines how the jackets sits on me.

In short: don’t be afraid of short jackets.

As always, this forum is a double edged sword of great advice and great inclination to spend money on things I want and not necessarily things I need : )

But many thanks to you. Definitely opened up my eyes to maybe try something on the shorter side.

In talking with Carrie and also seeing Mr Proper's recent Ridley, think I'm going in that direction. I like that the Ridley has full belt so can remove or leave it depending on mood, no epaulettes, and the model doesn't have a biswing back which will all make it different than my schott cross zips. But I'm hoping to capture the Indian Ranger from the front with the mixed brass, lay out, etc. I'll keep you posted.

Funny enough, I was really close to buying a Ridley on classifieds, but it's too small for me. So we've come full circle. Maybe I'll get lucky in next several days and find one now that I know what I'm looking for. Happy hunting and thanks again.

Not all 6’ tall person’s torsos are the same length.
Measure your’s and you’ll know for sure what works for your torso.
Also...Indian Ranger imo
B
That’s exactly right. I’m 6’1” with a 32” inseam so that tells you I have a long torso. A jacket with a 24.5” back would be to short for me. I have a Vanson trucker that is around that length and I never wear it.

yep. the killer drop LOL. Unfortunately there's not a lot of photos of the Indian Ranger and the ones there are, all appear to be above belt line or at best half way. But like we said, so many factors, with the rise of pants, torso length, etc.

My usual comfort zone is about 26. So if I end up building a new one, I'll go 25.5 for shits and giggles. I don't think I can rock 24ish. I think the big difference in the examples being posted above is age and as much as I want to stay young, I'll be 50 in 13 months. So I find myself talking about the way things used to be LOL.
