I can't see the photo from here, alas. Personally, I like a bit of tunnelling, though. Not a whole lot, just enough that there's a little overlap on the knit so it's not pulling against it's seam with the sleeve all the time. Think I might have seen it in an old photo I've forgotten that looked cool enough to imprint on me, or something...[huh] Not a fasn of overly baggy, though, when it puffs out overf the knit waist and creates the look of a beer gut hanging over yer trews whether one has one or not. Actually, it's that modern-fashion oversize look that put me off the A2 for years on end as I was under the impression that's how they were designed to fit. One lives and one acquires knowledge...

In real life, Mr. Ford is an accomplished fixed wing and helicopter pilot who has flown medevac missions in his native Wyoming. . . . So he is entitled to wear any pilot's jacket he wants, I think. He's the real deal.

A pretty good pilot too from what I hear . . . they say he made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs.

That I think is the best way to describe 99% of the public. It's easy to forget the bigger picture when one spends a lot of time discussing these things in internet forums and bulletin boards, etc. However, the extra long sleeves would bug me.
Since I wear a 52 Long, I can honestly say I have never had the problem of too long a sleeve. :D

The guy is 70+ years old and probably just wants a comfortable, loose fitting, waist-length leather jacket.

+2

Its annoying driving (or flying) and having sleeves ride up ones forearms. Perhaps at some point, one realizes 'comfort over trim athletic' look.

I would say the military as well. That is where these jacket styles originate, for the most part. I am not sure how the AF issues their jackets, but in the Navy you have about a minute or two to try on a jacket and determine if it fits. It's an issued piece of gear that comes with a bunch of other flight gear that you are standing in line to get issued with fifty other guys.

Bottom line is that you are going to get all kinds of ways the jacket "fits" people. Unless you take your jacket out to get tailored, you are stuck with what you get issued. That is why I have always found the discussions of how these jackets are "supposed" to fit humorous, as if military aviators get to shop for their jackets. Not to mention that uniform regs say that you are not allowed to wear it with civilian clothes.

It still looks good on Harrison. He may have had the "looking off" expression due to where he was at during the time of the picture being taken...it appears he is at a Gas Station...and the prices being sky high, may have had him feeling a bit blue.....

Leather is nice to own and wear. Perhaps the sleeves could have been a closer fit? The entire jacket is perhaps a size too big? Still all in all, it is what he was wearing.

I doubt anyone will take that guy for Indiana Jones. His real world A2 may be a little loose but it fits better than this:

Hey, as long as he isn't wearing the jacket like Kris Kros wore their duds (back to front, if you remember their one hit. That was a look never took off, thank God), IMHO, the man can wear what he wants and the way he wants.
After all, it was Mr. Ford's A2 in Hanover Street (I love that film) - and the way he wore it - that made me want an upgrade from the one I had and how I discovered ELC ... so he likes a fit on the blousey side. So what? Some men wear pleats in their chinos and others (like me) don't. No big deal. I think it's just nice to see someone famous in an A2.

Now THAT'S funny....

Actually, I'd say the original comment was uncalled for.
As this thread seems centred on proper fit, I'd say that Plumbline takes the time to post very thorough reviews of his many jackets (by all makers) with good photos and in each one he states that he personally prefers a roomier fit and asks for no comments in that regard. Fair enough. That should be respected and there's nothing more to say, if you ask me. Keep making comments like that and people will stop posting in time - and posts are the life-blood of a forum like this.

To the complete contrary, my view of his comment, those of another poster, and the response of Plumbline, is one of observing members who are quite comfortable with each other punting very good natured jibes back and forth, a little bit. Fanch and I do this all the time: he's a damn Texan, you know!

Oh, is he now ?! Well, I'm sure that he doesn't lie awake at night worrying about a few slap shots from around here .... ;-)

My point is, if someone posts and asks for comments, then they invite the comments; negative or constructive criticism included.
But if they say no comments on fit, then that should be respected - in that thread, or another like this one.
I regard the FL as an important voluntary information resource and exchange that helps and serves us all to be better informed, appreciative and makes better use of our hard-saved money - and I've spent the last 10 years on two boards staffed solely by volunteers - who can all easily find other places to be if they don't feel it's worth their while to remain. That's all I'm sayin'.

I've long maintained that the jacket which are a little bit off, a little bit civilianised, are the ones that - when worn in a civilian context - are much closer to what people would really have worn, given was was available for civilian purchase in the post-war years when such things were fashionable.

Kris Kros? never heard of them. I'm pretty certain from how Mr Ford dresses that he cares little for clothes and good on him for that. The A2 in Hanover Street was another Wested special. Pretty inaccurate but who would have noticed back then? When I saw it in 1982 on TV I thought it was the Jones jacket.
