I've owned a LOT of raw selvedge denim - my favorite heavyweight pair is my Iron Heart 888s in their flagship 21oz material (as offered here) that I had additionally tapered by Railcar Fine Goods.

This material will stretch 1-1.5" in the waist, if it needs to, quite easily upon break in (if it's unworn/unwashed). For a 21oz material, it's surprisingly forgiving.
