Up for sale is this Borsalino Angora, a true longhair with a silvery sheen due to the flawlessly even direction of the felt hair. The hat has been brushed with a velvet pad designed for use on top hats. It brought out the sheen wonderfully.
The hat was made for the U.S. market and has the pre-1950s Borsalino label, so it dates from either just before of just after WWII. The $20 price label is still behind the sweatband.
The color is comparable to the Winchester sahara, although the silvery sheen makes it a very distinct color. The ribbon is a warm brown.
Dimensions are 5.5" x 2 3/8", and the block shape looks like a #51-type - rather full and straight, but not as straight as a #52-type. Still, there is almost no taper once the crown is creased.
The hat is in excellent condition inside and out; the unreeded sweatband is entirely intact, and the open crown is as good as mint, with no front pinch marks.
I've handled a few Borsalini from pre-WWII to the 1950s and 60s and found the sweatbands to be of differing thickness and pliablility. This one has a somewhat thinner and very pliable sweatband.
Model name is Idorsca, felt color name is Ruitor - the usual fantasy names by Borsalino.
Size US 7 1/8
$235 shipped worldwide (from Germany) gets the hat. Just PM me for questions.
