OMG PITBULLS SO SCARY

One young man in our neighborhood has one of the most handsome Pitbulls I've ever seen--a male named Manu that is like the bodybuilder equivalent of a dog because he has so much muscle mass. At first glance Manu looks like he would tear you to pieces at the slightest provocation, but the moment we show him some attention he instantly transforms into a big friendly puppy. Over the years my wife and I have been introduced to a number of Pitbulls, and to date not one of them has lived up to the "vicious" stereotype. I'm not denying those dogs exist, but like any other breed of dog (or any species, really) it all depends on how they're raised and how they're treated while growing from infancy to adulthood.

I've own pits since I was a kid.
I have a good idea of their characteristics.
(2jakes was my first pit when I was 3)

I've seen a German Shepherd attack
a child because it got too close to it's owner.
As stated by my friend, much depends on how they are
raised or treated.

The neighbor got a new Pit Bull. He’s frightening as well...

The City of Springfield tried to ban them, but the citizens were able to get it on the ballot and voted it down.

Oh, we know. But you know us pesky humans--we like doing things our own way and if you give us an opportunity we'll take it.

Around here it seems you don't even need to be specific about the type of dog; a simple "Beware of Dog" sign will usually do the job nicely simply because so many people are afraid of dogs. The funny thing is that a number of our neighbors have medium to large dogs that will bark at us as we walk past, barks that most people would probably interpret as hostile. But they aren't "warning" barks--those dogs are just trying to get our attention because they want us to stop and give them a little love and/or play with them because they're stuck in the yard(s) and they're bored.

Statistically, it's those little yippity-yappity poochy-type dogs that are more likely to bite you than most of the bigger breeds. I once met a Pomeranian who was absolutely ferocious. He had to be, it was the only way he could avoid being stepped on.

Oh, you definitely have to watch out for those ankle-biters. The "experts" say dogs have no concept of size--they see another dog and think they're the same size until they're nose-to-nose and suddenly realize the other dog is larger or smaller. Despite this, most small dogs definitely appear to have the canine version of a Napoleon complex.

When I was a kid I had a beagle (large standard; but he wasn't very big). He had a bark on him that sounded like a large dog. Heck, if he got going, he sounded like 2 large dogs.

People would come to the house and ask my mother, "is he the only dog you have?" "Yes, yes, come in." "I heard two big dogs, you must have three dogs." "No, just the beagle." "Are you *sure*?"

Then most of the time if the visitor didn't have to come in the fence they refused to come in and left.

I swear people were more afraid of that beagle than my parents very large German Shepherd. And he was the sweetest beagle.

The looks my cat and dog give me when I'm soaking in the tub.
Also, falling asleep while soaking in the warm tub, only to be awaken
when the water gets cold.
And again, the looks my cat and dog give me as I run to the dryer to get
the towels which I had put them in so that they would be toasty warm
but forgot about them and slipping on the wet tiles as I run back
to the bathroom.

When I'm very tired... I am very dangerous to myself.
My dog and cat never lack for entertainment.
They got me.

When I was pregnant with my son I was really tired and took a bath. I woke up when I slid down significantly... and got a bit of water in my mouth. My husband said I'd only been in the bath about 5 minutes.

I now don't take baths when that tired.
