It's my second summer here among the oxygen deprived, and after all those decades on the reliably cool and cloudy shores of Puget Sound, I'm still finding the heat a pleasant change. It's hot and sunny here most every day this time of year, the humidity is all but nonexistent, and what few bugs there are don't seem drawn to my blood.

Sounds like California to me. Although around here most only find the heat pleasant when comparing it to Evil Humidity or the temps of Phoenix.

There is not much to like about it. In fact, there is much more to dislike and probably nothing to like.

Humidity is good for your skin and hair. It may make you sweat and frizzy, but it's more healthy than the dry. It also helps prevent an aged look. There may be no fat people in Colorado, but everyone looks like they're 100 years old. Girls in their mid 20s I'd swear were late 50s at best.

Last weekend I moved my computer from the front room of my house into my bedroom and now it's running so slow that it's almost like dialup! I'm also experiencing intermittent connection. The darndest thing is that it's only my computer that's having this problem! I called AT&T and they seem to think that it's a computer problem rather than a network problem. If that's the case how come it was working just fine the morning I moved my computer but right after I moved it I started having these difficulties? I'm at a total loss as to what the problem is.

Northern California, maybe. In recent years Arizona's monsoon season has been moving farther to the west, so we now get the heat and the humidity and it seems to get a little worse every year. I never thought I'd see the day when the summer weather in Chicago was better than it is in Los Angeles, but here we are.

Well keep that kind of weather to yourself. I don't care if humidity is great for my skin (I shave my head so I don't care about hair), it's miserable. The weather here just keeps getting warmer to where we have omitted Fall. That being said, this summer we have had a few weeks with temperatures in the mid-eighties.

Hmph. You westies need to try some East Coast humidity on for size. Enjoy having to climb out your kitchen window in the morning because the doors have swollen up so much overnight you can't get them open.

I used to complain about the heat and humidity in this country
until I spent some time overseas in the Pacific islands.

Light bulb in the closet & wiping off your shoes daily to prevent
green mildew from developing every day.

Made me appreciate home.

Sounds to me like it's your wi-fi network and you'll need to boost the signal to your bedroom. Before you do anything else, move the computer back (if it's not too onerous) to your front room and see if it works fine again. If so, then it all but proves it's the wifi network.

First, make sure you have the most up-to-date wireless router AT&T offer as, usually, if you grumble a bit, they'll replace what you have with the newest (and strongest) one which might solve the problem. I have Time Warner and a bit of grumbling usually gets me an upgrade to the newer equipment since they are collecting a monthly rental fee from me for it. That said, I use Apple for my wireless router (connected to my Time Warner modem).

Second, you might be able to place the existing (or upgraded) router in a more centralized location so that the signal is strong in both your front room and bedroom.

If neither of those things work, then check to see what kind of boosters AT&T offers / sells. Usually for between $50 and $100 you can buy one that will plug into any wall outlet and - strategically placed (maybe in the hallway between the front room and bedroom) - while not cheap, should solve your problem.

No problem. Summer is ok, but I'm looking forward to nice trenchcoat-time and following nice winter(wool)coat-time, too.

I'm a four seasons guy. I love each season and get excited when they approach.

That said, my favorites are fall and winter and, in a perfect world, July and August would merge into 2 weeks (as it is really hot and sticky for most of that time here in NYC - if I lived in Bermuda or Florida, I might not mind, but in NYC, the pavement and buildings just radiate heat while the moisture just hangs in the not-great-smelling air).

Nothing beats the first fall day of crisp dry air and the need to put on a sweater; nearly as good is the first snow storm of the season.

P.S. to Swanson_eyes, I dated a girl with curly hair twenty-plus years ago and her entire frame of reference for a day was if her hair would be "poofing" or not. She was pretty cool about it, but never a day went by with her that I didn't know what the poof meter was reading.

She hates the very mention of cold weather. Not that anyone but me ever clears driveway and sidewalks of the white stuff, mind you. The price of domestic tranquility being that I confine such statements to this forum- at least until August when the heat gets even more brutal.
