They all look great to me. I have been considering doing either the snowflake or the star pattern on a couple of hats. What were the 3 hole punch sizes used on the star? Looks like 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0? That one looks particularly good.

I have not read that thread yet. I did read one about vent holes not being useful to cooling your head but I am in this for the nice look it can give a hat. Its an extra design element.
Replied to your PM!
By the way, what other designs have you see on hats for vents or what designs would you like to see? If you have a cool suggestion and I make a template from it I will PM you for your address and send you one.
Thank you for the kind words and the suggestions. I do like your suggestions and will work on some new designs.I think you could do one that looks like a half moon, hour glass, heart, arrow! As nice as the ones you have made look now, wow, you could sure make about any design!
6 foot look is a great idea. I will have to try that out. Up till now I have been mostly looking for vintage hats with the vents to replicate.Chicago; Excellent. I admire your handy work sir.
Opinions - OK. I have a couple bespoke felts and a couple vtg. felts with vent hole patterns. To my eye I like the more simple patterns as when looked at they are easily discerned. I suggest having a "6 ft look" factor. At 6 ft. can you tell what the design is? If he answer is yes, good design. Complicated designs from close proximity is cool, from afar it is just a mess of holes. #1, 6 and 7 appear to meet my "6 ft. look."
I even have a couple of vtg.straws with the more simple diamond. I do like the looks as they add eye appeal to yet another stars hat when I am out and about.

Would you be willing to share the design files for these vents? I wouldn't mind trying my hand at them.Ok, I updated my entire set of vent templates to better accommodate the punch and then tried them all out. I think they work great and look pretty darn good. Let me know what you think. Here are all 8 that I punched out today.

Though the information may be on here somewhere, i wanted to ask,"Where can i get a hole punch or something similar with these designs in it? Or is creating a template such as the ones listed our only option to installing really cool vent holes? So I was looking through one of the Vintage threads here and found a bunch of vent designs so today I created some templates based off of what I saw. Here they are:

I plan on testing out various methods to make the holes in a few weeks as I need to purchase some felt hat bodies first. Methods I will try are: 1) Leather hole punch 2) Heated Needle 3) Laser cut the design in the felt
These look great! I'd love to get my hands on them or something similar.Ok, I updated my entire set of vent templates to better accommodate the punch and then tried them all out. I think they work great and look pretty darn good. Let me know what you think. Here are all 8 that I punched out today.

Did you ever try these out? What size of punch did you use? 1.8mm is the smallest punch i can find at Tandy.I just created these two templates and cut them out on a laser cutter. I hope to try them out soon. The thought is that I could mark the felt with powered chalk or a disappearing fabric marker and only the hole marks would be left behind. Just need to get a small leather punch and try it out. The actual designs measure about 1.5" squared. I will post back here after I have actually used them. The pink surface was just some insulation foam to help show the patterns.

Yeah, these work great. In fact I punched a design into the crown of the hat that I am working on now. I like 1.5mm for punching, 2mm feels too big for my liking and 1mm is too small. You can get punches on Amazon that are smaller than 1.8mmDid you ever try these out? What size of punch did you use? 1.8mm is the smallest punch i can find at Tandy.
I think the pattern can be quite large as long as the holes are small. These seem too large to me. Here's one I posted recently. After getting my first vented crown hat from @ChicagoWayVito I’ve become smitten. The airflow really makes a difference. I have a couple others in the works. Getting the size of the pattern and the size of the holes right is critica (Kevin nailed mine).
Here’s a different hatter trying to work it out on a practice felt:

What do you think? Is the pattern too large? Are the holes too large? I sure wouldn’t want either any larger.
I do think it is too large and the holes are too large. But also hard to tell without seeing it creased. It would definitely get more air through.

That looks perfect. I also love the diamond pattern side vents on old Playboys. I sent Michael some photos and asked Eric @Short Balding Guy for some measurements to forward and hope he can pull it off.
