Sizing an Aero Highwayman

Aero has a size 42 Highwayman for sale on a cancellation. They sent me the dimensions, but I'm not sure about them. The dimensions are 1+" greater than my shirt sleeve and about 1" greater across the back. The back length falls below my belt, at about the tailbone.

Does anyone have experience with measuring these things?

The jacket is a brown horsehide, just what I was looking for.

Get a jacket that fits you, take the measurements from that jacket and compare the two. The jacket you measure should be about the same thickness as the Highwayman. For a rule of thumb, I have found that if I take the chest measurement from just below one armpit to just below the other armpit, double that measurement, and then subtract two inches, that is about the chest size of the jacket. For example if the measurement is 22" I double it for 44" and then subtract 2" for the material, the jacket will be about a size 42. That is a rule of thumb, and it usually works pretty well.

The Highwayman is fitted pretty tightly, so the measurements are critical. I don't think you can depend on the advertised size of the jacket. At least that has been my limited experience with Aero--an excellent jacket, BTW.

Sounds kinda right.... the bottom of the jacket is actually longer than I had thought. It did take a lot of getting used too - I did think it was too long. But it does work for me now. Man, I love that jacket - it was a great buy.

Highwayman sizing

Unfortunately I don't have another jacket cut like this one.

Amanda listed the armpit to armpit size as 25". On you calculation this would be a 48, but the jacket is listed as a 42. Also the sleeve is nearly 26" which seems pretty long. My shirt sleeve size is 34".

The back length is 25.5" which seems adequate on me to fall below my belt by an inch or 2. And the shoulder to shoulder is 20" which I don't know about.

I'll try to email with Amanda tomorrow for more input.

Buffman, I have an Aero Highwayman labelled as size 42". The measurement, pit to pit across the front is 26".
I wear a size 44 in ELC's A2 but am very glad Will recommended I have a 42" in the Highwayman, despite the seemingly large chest circumference it is a good fit, perfect with a light sweater or long sleeved T underneath. If it would help, I'll post exact measurements over a photo, let me know, but once you have the correct size, I don't think you'll be disappointed, good luck.

hi, think i might be able to add to the info you've been getting so you can make an informed decision...but personally sounds like a fit...

as for the sleeve length, you definitely want it longer than your shirt sleeves...when you lift your arm on a leather jacket, especially to hold a steering wheel or whatever when driving, the jacket becomes inches shorter...from my experience, about 1/4" above the knuckles when standing and arms at the side should be about right, unless you don't care that when you lift your arms your jacket will look short (and most of the time your arms are doing stuff, not hanging at your sides)

i just bought a lewis dominator, an incredible jacket, yet my arms measure 34 to 35", and the 25.5" length of the arms on that jacket are, very sadly, too short when i am driving...so 26" should be nice if you ask me

as for the highwayman sizing, it's rather off...i had a size 44, and it was over 27" in armpit to armpit...still, it fit (the jackets do have a thickness that eats up some of that outside measurement), and my chest is 45.5"

so a size 42 with a 50" chest circumference is, by industry standards, really a 44 to 46...so i think you'll be fine there

not to fault aero at all, you just have to listen to them and believe them when they quote you a size for your measurements...if it sounds too small that's because the current (not older) aero's are labeled probably one full size smaller...not a problem, just trust aero when they tell you what you need

if this jacket can fit you, i'd get it...i had a highwayman, and if it fits, you will adoRRRRRRe it

I just measured my Highwayman which is labeled as a 42. From pit to pit across the chest it is 22 3/4 inches. I normally wear a 42, and this jacket is a little tight on me through the chest. Actually it is probably a very good fit, but I like my jackets to fit fairly loose. Hope that is some help to you.

Crickey that's quite a discrepancy, as my labelled 42" is definitley 26" across! How did they manage that I wonder? How old is your jacket Peacoat, mine's 3 years - do you think the pattern may have shifted over time?

Thanks for the help. Just to try and compare, I wear a 42 long suit and a 151/2 X 34 shirt. I'm 6-2 & 200 lbs, but at age 57 there's some settling. Basketball helps keep the waistline acceptable. I saw the Daniel Craig photo in one, but I doubt I'd look quite like that. They quoted February for a new one & that's late for Texas weather. If this already made jacket doesn't fit, I'll probably wait until fall and do it from scratch. I've already read that the weathered HH comes feeling a little broken in. Also the ~$450 price is nice. If I think it might work, I'll invest in the shipping costs and try it on myself.

Mine is almost two years old. The measurement across the back is 25 1/2. The measurement across the chest is given from seam to seam under the armpits--22 3/4. If I go beyond the seam on each side across the chest, it is 25". Unfortunately that extra material does not make the chest larger because of the position of the armholes. Not sure if that is clear. The usable measurement for the chest is from seam to seam across the chest, under the armpits. There is extra material in the back that makes the measurement wider in the back, but it adds nothing to the chest size. Clear as mud?
